NYC couple had "paint and sip" date hours before fatal stabbing - and cops eyeing teen son as suspected killer

Nineteen-year-old Jayden Rivera, a college student at SUNY Oswego, has been charged with the murder of his father, 38-year-old Jonathan Rivera, his girlfriend, 33-year-old Hanoi Peralta, and their 5-year-old son, Kayden Rivera. The bodies of the victims were discovered on Sunday in their Bronx apartment, with the young boy being brutally stabbed to the point of being disemboweled. Jayden Rivera was reportedly checked into a psychiatric ward at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla following the murders.

According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Jayden claimed to his mother that he was "hearing voices" before the triple slaying occurred. After the stabbings, Jayden left the apartment but returned later to beat the bodies with a kitchen pot so violently that it became dented. Police sources also revealed that Jayden had been babysitting his half-brother on Saturday night while his father and Hanoi went on a "paint and sip" date, just hours before the killings took place.

Responding to a 911 call, police found Jonathan Rivera dead in the hallway of the apartment building, with Peralta and Kayden mortally wounded inside their apartment. The suspect, still covered in blood, returned home to his mother's apartment in the north Bronx where he confessed to her that he believed the victims were going to hurt him. Subsequently, he was checked into the psychiatric ward at Westchester County Medical Center. Friends and relatives expressed shock and disbelief at the tragedy, describing Jonathan Rivera as a devoted father who worked two jobs to support his family.

Law enforcement sources have disclosed that Jayden was a person of interest in the case and checked into the Westchester County Medical Center following the murders. Although he hasn't been officially charged, investigators are gathering probable cause to charge him with the murders.

According to family friend Eusebio Baez, Jonathan and Hanoi had split up about a year ago but were attempting to reconcile in recent months. They had gone on a "paint and sip" date the night before they were killed, and Baez stated that they appeared happy and posted about their night out on social media.

Jonathan Rivera was described as a loving father who spoiled his children, particularly Kayden. He had two older daughters who live in Connecticut and an older son attending Oswego College on a scholarship. Baez remembered Jonathan as a hardworking man who spent all his time and money to ensure the happiness of his family. He mentioned that Jonathan barely had time for himself and didn't engage in activities like going to bars. Baez also revealed that Jonathan would often babysit Kayden, clean the house, and make sure everything was taken care of for Hanoi.

Family and friends remember Kayden as an energetic and sassy 5-year-old who loved chicken nuggets and Happy Meals from McDonald's. Jonathan would spoil his son, buying him any toy he wanted, including Sonic and Ironman toys. The tragedy has left loved ones heartbroken, with Jonathan's father Miguel expressing disbelief over the events. "The day they told me, I was thinking this was like a movie. But, no. Now it's real," he said.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence against Jayden Rivera.
