Suspect Arrested for Threatening to Kill Vivek Ramaswamy at Campaign Event

13:38 11.12.2023

After receiving the text message, Anderson allegedly responded with two threatening messages. The first message stated, "Great, another opportunity for me to blow [the candidate's] brains out!" The second message was even more disturbing, saying, "I'm going to kill everyone who attends and then f*** their corpses."

The Ramaswamy campaign immediately reported the threats to the Portsmouth Police Department, providing them with the phone number associated with Anderson. Law enforcement quickly identified Anderson as the suspect and obtained a search warrant for his residence.

On Saturday, federal agents conducted a search of Anderson's home and seized his phone and firearms. During a preliminary search of the phone, an FBI agent discovered the threatening text messages sent to Ramaswamy's campaign in a deleted folder.

The investigation also uncovered additional threatening messages sent by Anderson in response to a message from another unidentified presidential candidate. One of the messages read, "Fantastic, now I know where to go so I can blow that b*****d's head off!" Anderson admitted to sending these messages to Ramaswamy and multiple other campaigns when he was arrested on Saturday.

Anderson has been charged with one count of transmitting a threat to injure another person over state lines. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

The Ramaswamy campaign expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their swift response and professionalism in handling the matter. They also expressed concern for the safety of all Americans in light of these threats.

Campaign spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin released a statement saying, "We're going to let the investigators do their work and figure out who this person is and what their motives might be. It's no wonder that fanatics will take action when the media constantly demonizes Republicans and questions our loyalty to the country."

The statement also criticized the media for their silence when the target of threats is a Republican and accused them of stoking hatred and violence by questioning their motives and patriotism.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who has campaigned against cutting federal law enforcement, has not publicly expressed concern for his safety but stated, "We don't take anything for granted, but I'm confident that the team around us and our family is on this journey together. And I'm praying for our family and our country."

Anderson is scheduled to appear in federal court in Concord, New Hampshire, on Monday afternoon. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the motives behind Anderson's threats and whether there are any additional targets.
