Tucker Carlson ventures into streaming with exclusive interviews and commentary

21:31 11.12.2023

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced on Monday that he will be launching his own streaming service called the Tucker Carlson Network. Priced at $72 a year, the network aims to provide Carlson's fans with unfiltered news, commentary, interviews, documentaries, and even an advice show. The network will be staffed by individuals who previously worked with Carlson at Fox. This venture comes after Carlson was abruptly fired by Fox more than seven months ago, with no public explanation given by the network. Carlson stated that he doubts he will ever truly understand the reasons behind his firing.

During his announcement on The Megyn Kelly Show, a podcast and radio show hosted by fellow former Fox News personality Megyn Kelly, Carlson expressed his desire to have complete independence in delivering the truth to his viewers. He mentioned that he hopes to present the unadorned truth in a non-offensive manner. Despite his departure from Fox, Carlson's popularity remained evident, as he averaged 3.2 million viewers per night for the first three months of 2023, according to Nielsen ratings. Fox's ratings, on the other hand, suffered a decline following Carlson's exit. Jesse Watters, who took over Carlson's time slot, managed to attract an audience of 2.6 million viewers in November.

The Tucker Carlson Network will offer a range of programming options, including "The Tucker Carlson Encounter," a long-form conversation show featuring guests such as singer Kid Rock and golfer John Daly. Additionally, there will be "The Tucker Carlson Interview," a more formal question-and-answer session, akin to Carlson's recent interview with former President Donald Trump. Both of these programs will initially be available for free on the network's website, while post-interview observations will be behind a paywall. Other shows, such as "Tucker Carlson Uncensored," which mirrors his former opening monologue, and "Tucker Carlson Films," which will produce documentaries, including one that raised questions about the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021, will also be featured. Lastly, the network will include an interactive component called "Ask Tucker Carlson," where subscribers can ask the host questions and seek advice.

During the interview with Kelly, Carlson shared that he is excited to vote for Trump in the 2024 election but does not envision himself as a potential vice presidential candidate. However, he did not outright dismiss the idea. It was also revealed that Carlson had previously partnered with X, formerly known as Twitter, for content after leaving Fox. While he will continue to post material on the platform under his network's brand, Carlson determined that X did not have the capacity to support the growth of his streaming service. As of now, it is unclear whether Carlson's new venture violates any contractual obligations he may have had with Fox.

The Tucker Carlson Network will be led by former college roommate Neil Patel, who co-founded The Daily Caller website with Carlson in 2010. Patel will serve as CEO, overseeing the network's business operations. Justin Wells, Carlson's former executive producer who was also fired from Fox, will be responsible for content development. In discussing his new venture, Carlson expressed happiness and a sense of liberation. Fox News has yet to comment on Carlson's streaming service or whether it infringes upon any contractual agreements.
