Ron DeSantis, and other Florida Republicans have called on Christian Ziegler to step down as GOP chair, but he has refused to do so. The Sarasota County School Board cannot directly remove Bridget Ziegler from the panel, but they voted 4-1 on Tuesday to recommend her resignation. The resolution was authored by board Chair Karen Rose, who expressed shock and sadness over the rape allegations involving Christian Ziegler and the couple's admission of a previous three-way sexual encounter with the accuser.

Bridget Ziegler, who is co-founder of the conservative Moms for Liberty group, voted against the resolution and showed no indication that she would step down. Prior to the meeting, protesters gathered outside the school board, carrying signs and chanting for Ziegler's resignation. They called for her to apologize and resign, accusing her and her husband of being grifters. Among the slogans on the signs were "Ban Bridget, not books" and "Real women aren't homophobes."

Only Florida's governor has the power to remove a school board member, and that can only be done under certain conditions, such as a criminal charge.

The Sarasota Police Department is currently investigating a woman's accusation that Christian Ziegler raped her in October. According to police documents, the three individuals involved had planned a sexual encounter that day, but Bridget Ziegler was unable to attend. The accuser claims that Christian Ziegler arrived regardless and assaulted her. However, Christian Ziegler has not been charged with any crime and maintains his innocence, stating that the encounter was consensual.

Bridget Ziegler has been actively involved in conservative politics for many years. She supported the controversial "Don't Say Gay" law, which restricts the teaching of sexual and gender material in early school grades. Moms for Liberty, the group she co-founded in 2021, aims to promote conservative viewpoints in schools, restrict transgender rights, fight against mask mandates during the pandemic, and remove books they object to from school classrooms and libraries.

In addition, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Bridget Ziegler to the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, which oversees the operations of Walt Disney World. This panel was created after Disney objected to the "Don't Say Gay" law and replaced a previous one controlled by the company. The board is currently facing legal challenges regarding control of the theme park.
