Quaker Oats recalls granola products nationwide due to salmonella risk

23:07 16.12.2023

The Quaker Oats Company has issued a recall for over 40 granola products across the United States due to concerns of potential salmonella contamination. The announcement was made on Friday, and consumers are advised to check their pantries for any affected items. The recall includes various varieties of Quaker's Chewy bars, with a total of 36 granola bar types and eight types of granola cereal being affected. A statement on the company's website explained that the recall was necessary because these products have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The impacted products are sold in outlets throughout the country, prompting the company to urge consumers to dispose of any recalled items they may have.

The Quaker Oats Company has already informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the recall. However, according to CBS, the company has not received any confirmed reports of people falling ill after consuming the recalled products. Despite this, the recall is being taken seriously due to the potential dangers associated with salmonella contamination.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), salmonella bacteria cause approximately 1.35 million infections, resulting in 26,500 hospitalizations and 420 deaths, each year in the United States. Symptoms of salmonella illness typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. In some cases, the illness can become severe enough to require hospitalization. This is particularly true for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

In response to the recall, Quaker Oats has provided a full list of the affected products on their website. The recall encompasses products sold across all 50 U.S. states, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam, and Saipan. The company has emphasized that no other Quaker products are affected by the recall.

While salmonella can cause serious illness if it enters the bloodstream, Quaker Oats has reiterated that they have not received any reports of individuals falling ill as a result of consuming the recalled products. However, as a precautionary measure, they have launched a dedicated website, www.quakergranolarecall.com, where consumers can find more information about the recall and details on how to seek reimbursement if necessary.
