Marvel Actor Jonathan Majors Convicted of Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

16:29 18.12.2023

In a major blow to his career, Marvel actor Jonathan Majors has been found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in March in the backseat of a car in New York City. Jabbari, a 30-year-old dancer, accused Majors of attacking her, causing her excruciating pain. She claimed that he struck her in the head, twisted her arm behind her back, and fractured her middle finger. However, Majors' lawyers argued that Jabbari was the aggressor, alleging that she became enraged after reading a text message on his phone from another woman.

Throughout the trial, Majors maintained his innocence, but the jury ultimately convicted him on two counts of assault and harassment. The actor showed no immediate reaction as the verdict was read in court. While he was acquitted of a different assault charge and of aggravated harassment, the conviction could potentially lead to up to one year in jail for Majors. His sentencing is scheduled for February 6.

This verdict marks a significant setback for Majors, who was once considered one of Hollywood's fastest-rising stars. Since his arrest in March, he has lost various acting roles and endorsement deals, and his drama Magazine Dreams was pulled from release earlier this month. The actor had hoped that the trial would help salvage his damaged reputation and restore his status in the industry. However, with the guilty verdict, Majors' future in Hollywood remains uncertain.

During the trial, the courtroom heard testimony from both Majors and Jabbari. Jabbari described in detail the altercation that left her injured, recounting how Majors had assaulted her after a text message sparked a confrontation. The Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, commended Jabbari for bravely telling her story despite having to relive her trauma on the stand. He emphasized that this trial shed light on the psychological and emotional abuse that is all too common in domestic violence cases.

Majors' defense team attempted to paint Jabbari as a liar seeking revenge, claiming that she had assaulted Majors and spread a fantasy to take him down. They pointed to her actions after the alleged assault, stating that she went out dancing with strangers instead of seeking immediate medical attention. However, the jury ultimately focused on the events that occurred inside and directly outside the car, leading to Majors' conviction.

While Majors did not visibly react to the verdict, his hopes of clearing his name and salvaging his career have been dashed. The trial presented a mountain of embarrassing evidence against him, including a recording in which Majors instructed Jabbari to treat him like Michelle Obama and Coretta Scott King had treated their husbands. Additionally, text messages revealed Majors urging Jabbari not to seek medical treatment and making threats of suicide. Prosecutors used this evidence to argue that the assault was the culmination of years' worth of controlling and manipulative behavior from Majors.

As the sentencing date approaches, Majors faces an uncertain future in the film industry. The conviction has dealt a significant blow to his once-promising career, leaving him with the possibility of jail time and a tarnished reputation. Only time will tell how this verdict will shape Majors' future in Hollywood.
