Kim Jong UN bans Christmas, but activists send gifts of Bibles, food and messages of hope

In a bold act of defiance against the oppressive regime of Kim Jong Un, a group of activists has taken it upon themselves to send messages of hope, faith, and freedom to the suffering people of North Korea. Despite the strict ban on Christmas celebrations in the country, these activists have found a way to reach out to the North Korean peninsula, utilizing the power of the currents in the Yellow Sea.

The Washington, D.C.-based North Korean Freedom Coalition, led by Chair Suzanne Scholte, sponsored this courageous initiative as part of their "Operation Truth," which is inspired by the historic Berlin Airlift. Their goal is to provide critical aid and information to the starving citizens of North Korea by any means necessary.

This particular operation involves launching flash drives celebrating Christmas into the Yellow Sea, contained within bottles. The hope is that the currents will carry these symbolic messages to the shores of North Korea, where they can be discovered by those in need. Each bottle not only contains Bible readings but also enough rice to sustain a family of four for a week, a U.S. $1 bill, and a flash drive containing a Bible and North Korean music.

Remarkably, among those participating in this extraordinary endeavor are nine North Korean escapees who are determined to bring freedom back to their homeland. These brave individuals understand the importance of reaching out to their fellow North Koreans and providing them with a glimmer of hope.

Scholte's Christmas message, included in each bottle, exposes the dark history of religious persecution in North Korea. She highlights the fact that many North Koreans' ancestors also believed in Jesus, with Pyongyang even being known as a Holy City in 1907. However, when Kim II Sung rose to power, he demanded that North Koreans worship him as a god, leading to the brutal persecution and even death of countless Christian leaders and followers.

In an effort to counteract the forced worship of Kim Jong Un, the flash drives also contain modified North Korean music, changing the lyrics to worship God instead. Additionally, they feature K-Pop songs, the Books of Matthew and Mark, and recorded messages from influential members of Congress advocating for freedom and human rights in North Korea. Senators Jim Risch and Tim Kaine, as well as Congressmen Michael McCaul and Gregory Meeks, are among those who lent their voices to these recorded messages.

The North Korean Freedom Coalition has been actively involved in reaching out to the people of North Korea since 2022, employing various means to bring them vital information. In addition to the bottle launches, the group has sent 600 shortwave radios equipped with earbuds into the country, enabling individuals to tune into Free North Korea Radio. This station, operated by the coalition and the Defense Forum Foundation, broadcasts news and information into North Korea, despite constant attempts by the dictatorship to jam its programming.

Kim Song Min, the director of Free North Korea Radio, himself escaped from North Korea in 1997. He expressed his gratitude to the American people for their support and for helping to share the truth about America and South Korea with the North Korean population. He emphasized the importance of dispelling the deep-seated hatred and misinformation that North Koreans have been subjected to throughout their lives, instilling in them the belief that America is their enemy and that they are living in misery while North Korea thrives.

Through their unwavering efforts, the activists behind this operation are delivering a powerful message to the people of North Korea, one bottle at a time. Suzanne Scholte emphasizes that this message is about the values and principles that Americans hold dear - freedom, faith, and hope. Despite the ban on Christmas and the oppression they face, the people of North Korea are reminded that they have friends and allies who are committed to supporting them in their pursuit of a better life.

With each launch of the bottles into the Yellow Sea, the North Korean Freedom Coalition and its supporters aim to counter the propaganda and indoctrination that have kept North Koreans isolated and oppressed for far too long. By providing them with information, aid, and messages of hope, these activists are determined to pave the way for a brighter future for the people of North Korea. Their mission is clear: to break the shackles of oppression, bring light into the darkness, and restore the freedom that North Koreans so desperately deserve.
