Las Vegas weddings could hit record on New Year's Eve thanks to "specialty date' for 2023

Las Vegas is preparing for a potentially record-breaking New Year's Eve as couples flock to the city to tie the knot on what is being called a magic date. This Sunday, December 31, 2023, falls on a specialty date with a repeating 1-2-3 pattern when written in American style. The date coinciding with the biggest night in the party calendar is expected to attract a surge of couples who want to say "I do" in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas wedding venues are gearing up for the influx of couples, with expectations of a showstopping event. Melody Willis-Williams, president of Vegas Weddings, which operates multiple venues, described it as a "double whammy" and anticipated a huge popularity for this specialty date combined with New Year's Eve celebrations.

Las Vegas, known as "Sin City," is famous for its enormous casinos, opulent hotels, and entertainment venues. Every year, millions of people visit the city for its shows, gambling, and pool parties. On a typical New Year's Eve, around 450 to 550 couples get married in Las Vegas. However, this year's specialty date has the potential to break records.

The current record for the most marriages in a single day in Las Vegas is 4,492, set on July 7, 2007, which was also a specialty date. The second-most popular specialty date on record is November 11, 2011, when 3,125 couples said their vows. With the anticipation of a busy day, Vegas Weddings alone expects to marry over 120 couples on 12/31/23, with five of them tying the knot as the clock counts down to midnight.

Couples who choose to marry on specialty dates in Las Vegas often describe them as "magic dates" that are easy to remember. Lynn Marie Goya, the Clark County clerk, believes the group dynamic and the excitement of being in love during a celebration enhance the couples' experience.

For Vegas Weddings, this New Year's Eve is already fully booked at all their venues, including the iconic brown-brick chapel in downtown Las Vegas with a white steeple and red awning. The company is prepared to handle the surge of couples and expects to make history with the number of weddings they facilitate on this special day.

As the countdown to midnight approaches, Las Vegas is poised to host a remarkable celebration of love and commitment, with couples from all over the country choosing to start the new year as newlyweds in the city of dreams.
