Desperate measures: Couple forced to retrieve $4K swallowed by their dog

07:36 04.01.2024

In a bizarre turn of events, a couple from Pennsylvania found themselves in a sticky situation after their beloved goldendoodle, Cecil, devoured $4,000 in cash. Clayton and Carrie Law had withdrawn the money to pay their gardeners and left it on the kitchen counter, only to have Cecil seize the opportunity for a costly snack.

The couple was taken aback when they discovered the shredded remains of $100 and $50 notes scattered across the floor. Clayton immediately called out to his wife, exclaiming, "Cecil ate $4,000!" Mrs. Law rushed in, initially thinking she had misheard, but the sight of the mess left no room for doubt. "I thought I was going to have a heart attack," she admitted.

Undeterred by the unfortunate incident, the Laws decided to salvage as much of the money as possible. They meticulously documented the process, which involved sifting through bits of cash that Cecil had either regurgitated or passed through naturally. In an Instagram post, Mrs. Law proudly shared their progress, revealing that they had managed to tape together $3,550 of the chewed-up cash so far.

The couple faced the challenge of washing the money, which proved to be a rather unpleasant task. Mrs. Law described the experience as they stood at the utility sink, "There we are at the utility sink washing this s***** money, yelling 'Yay! Yes! We got one!'. It smelled so bad." However, their efforts paid off when they learned from the bank that as long as the serial numbers on the notes were visible, the chewed money would be accepted.

"I never thought I'd be able to say I've laundered money, but there is apparently a first time for everything," Mrs. Law humorously remarked to The Washington Post. The Laws were relieved to discover that the bank would take back the salvaged bills, provided that at least 50% of each note was identifiable. They were also informed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing that the full serial numbers needed to be visible on both the front and back.

While the Laws managed to recover a significant portion of their lost funds, their journey to retrieve the money was not without its challenges. After Cecil had consumed the cash, the couple consulted their vet, who assured them that the dog would likely pass the money without any issues. Determined to recover what they could, Clayton and Carrie embarked on a rather unorthodox mission.

Clayton donned a mask and gloves and followed Cecil into the backyard to collect the dog's waste. With a sense of determination, they meticulously sifted through the feces, washing and piecing together dozens of shredded bits of their fortune. Their perseverance paid off, and over the course of two days, they managed to retrieve an additional $1,800, bringing their total salvage to $3,550.

In a surprising twist, Carrie revealed that she plans to use the remaining scraps of shredded cash to create what she calls the "most expensive piece of art." This unique artwork will serve as a constant reminder of the extraordinary and disgusting tale that unfolded in their home.

Despite the unexpected turn of events, the Laws hold no ill will towards Cecil. They describe him as a lovable dog, and people often remark that there is a human trapped inside him. As they move forward from this incident, the couple can now look back and share their unbelievable story of how their dog literally ate their money.
