Rep. Lauren Boebert's Ex-Husband Arrested, Police Investigate Restaurant Incident

16:19 10.01.2024

Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert has been cleared of domestic violence allegations made by her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, during an altercation at a Colorado restaurant, according to police. The incident occurred at the Miner's Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado, on Saturday night, but details of the altercation remain unclear. The restaurant did not have any surveillance video recording at the time, and no witnesses came forward to provide a statement about what happened.

Jayson Boebert had initially accused his ex-wife of punching him in the face but later recanted his claim. He called the police on Sunday morning to say that he didn't want to press charges, stating that he and Lauren were working through a difficult conversation. Despite his recantation, Jayson was arrested on Tuesday for third-degree criminal trespass, obstruction, and disorderly conduct in connection with the restaurant incident, along with other charges pursued by county authorities. He was released the same day.

The police investigation into Lauren Boebert has been closed due to a lack of evidence. Silt police stated, "Due to a lack of any evidence, the allegations of domestic violence against Rep Lauren Boebert are unfounded." Lauren had previously denied the allegations made by her ex-husband. Her campaign released a statement on Sunday, saying that she didn't punch Jayson in the face and that no one was arrested. She also mentioned consulting with her lawyer about the false claims made against her and evaluating her legal options.

Lauren Boebert, known for her assertive style and alignment with the extreme right wing of the GOP, has built a national profile during her time in Washington. She recently announced that she plans to move into a more conservative district before running for re-election in 2024. In the 2022 election, she narrowly won her own district by only 500 votes, and she cited her ex-husband as part of the reason for her decision to switch districts. However, she has faced criticism for her behavior, including being kicked out of a musical performance in Denver for disruptive behavior.

This recent alleged incident adds to the controversy surrounding Lauren Boebert. She is currently under "active investigation" related to the altercation with her ex-husband. The Silt Police Chief confirmed that the investigation is ongoing but did not provide further details. Boebert's ex-husband, Jayson, has stated that he does not want to press charges. Boebert's opponents have circulated allegations on social media that she punched Jayson in the face, but she has denied these claims.

Despite the controversy, Boebert remains determined to continue her political career. She has expressed that the move to a different district is a fresh start following a difficult year for her and her family, including a public and difficult divorce. Boebert has acknowledged her personal mistakes and apologized for them. As the investigation into the alleged altercation continues, the congresswoman faces ongoing scrutiny and will need to address these allegations as she moves forward in her political career.
