Michael Strahan's Daughter Diagnosed with Brain Tumor: Emotional 'GMA' Interview

19:57 11.01.2024

NFL legend and "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan and his 19-year-old daughter, Isabella, revealed on Thursday that she is battling a malignant brain tumor called medulloblastoma. Isabella was diagnosed with the fast-growing cancerous brain tumor in October 2023 after an MRI scan. Medulloblastoma develops in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. The father-daughter duo shared the emotional news during an interview with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America." Michael Strahan took to Instagram to express his love and gratitude for his daughter and thanked everyone for their support.

During the interview, Isabella, a freshman at the University of Southern California, disclosed that she had been keeping her diagnosis a secret for two months, which had been challenging. She began experiencing symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and difficulty walking around October 1st. One morning, she even vomited blood, which prompted her to inform her family. After undergoing various tests, including an MRI, she was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where doctors discovered a 4-centimeter tumor larger than a golf ball in her brain.

Michael Strahan, who received the news before Isabella, expressed his initial shock and disbelief, stating that it didn't feel real. Isabella underwent brain surgery in late October, followed by rehabilitation and six weeks of radiation treatment. In February, she will begin chemotherapy at Duke University, where her twin sister, Sophia, attends.

Isabella, who recently launched a campaign with Sephora, plans to create a YouTube series documenting her experience in partnership with Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center. She hopes to use her platform to be a voice for others going through similar treatments and provide them with inspiration and support.

During the interview, Michael Strahan admitted that he was unsure if Isabella wanted to share her story due to its personal nature. However, Isabella expressed her desire to help others, which aligns with her character. Isabella's emotional moments were met with comfort and encouragement from her father, who assured her that it was okay to cry and expressed his unwavering support.

The news of Isabella's health battle comes after Michael Strahan's absence from "Good Morning America" for three weeks due to "personal family matters." He returned on November 15th without providing an explanation at the time. Michael Strahan has four children in total, including Isabella and Sophia with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli, and Tanita and Michael Jr. with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins.

Isabella's diagnosis and her journey to overcome medulloblastoma serve as a reminder of the strength and resilience of individuals facing adversity. With the support of her family and the determination to use her platform for good, Isabella is ready to face her next challenge and inspire others along the way.
