FBI Raids Homes of Adams's Asian Affairs Adviser

18:02 01.03.2024

Federal agents conducted morning raids on two properties owned by Winnie Greco, a top adviser to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in the Bronx on Thursday. Greco, who previously served as a fundraiser for Adams and now holds the position of director of Asian affairs, was the subject of the investigation, although the specific purpose was not disclosed. The U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn was overseeing the probe, which was separate from a criminal inquiry being conducted by federal prosecutors in Manhattan that involved seizing Adams' electronic devices last fall.

This latest raid on Greco's properties was part of a broader pattern of federal scrutiny on Adams and his inner circle. In November, the FBI also raided the homes of Brianna Suggs, a top fundraiser for Adams, and Rana Abbasova, who worked in the mayor's international affairs office. Additionally, federal agents seized the mayor's cellphones and an iPad as part of an investigation into potential illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources.

Following the raids, Greco was placed on leave from her position at City Hall. The city's Department of Investigation had previously opened a probe into her conduct after allegations arose regarding her political fundraising practices and potential misuse of her position for personal benefits. Despite the mounting federal probes surrounding members of his administration, Adams stood by Greco and emphasized his commitment to serving the city's residents during media appearances on Friday.

Greco's properties were searched as part of an ongoing investigation with prosecutors from the U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn, although the specific focus of the probe was not disclosed. Adams has repeatedly deflected questions about the investigations, maintaining that his administration will cooperate fully with authorities. As the federal scrutiny continues to deepen, the mayor remains focused on his duties and public safety initiatives, while expressing confidence in his adviser Greco despite the ongoing investigations.
