United Flight Lands in Oregon with Missing Fuselage Panel

00:30 16.03.2024

A United Airlines-operated Boeing 737-800 flight from San Francisco to Medford, Oregon, landed safely with 145 passengers and crew on board, but was discovered to be missing an external panel on the aircraft after it landed at Rogue Valley International Medford Airport. The missing panel, located on the bottom side of the fuselage underneath the wing and behind the main landing gear, was noticed by a person on the ground during a routine inspection. United Airlines stated that the crew did not declare an emergency during the flight, and there was no indication of damage affecting the flying characteristics of the airplane. The Federal Aviation Administration announced that it would be investigating the incident, and operations at the airport were briefly paused for a safety check after the plane landed. United Airlines confirmed that they will conduct a thorough examination of the plane and perform all necessary repairs before it returns to service. This incident comes as United Airlines faces scrutiny over a series of recent incidents with different aircraft, including engine issues and a flight losing a tire after takeoff. Despite the recent string of incidents, United Airlines has maintained that the safety incidents were unrelated, with no serious injuries reported in any of the incidents.
