30 million stolen in largest cash heist in Los Angeles history

17:10 04.04.2024

Authorities in Los Angeles are currently investigating what appears to be the largest cash heist in the city's history. The theft took place on Easter Sunday at a GardaWorld money storage facility in Sylmar, with as much as $30 million stolen. The burglars reportedly broke through the building's roof and gained access to the vault without triggering the facility's alarm system, leaving business owners unaware of the theft until they opened the vault on Monday.

The LAPD and FBI are conducting a joint investigation into the sophisticated operation, with no arrests made yet and a manhunt underway for those responsible. This heist surpasses the previous record set in 1997 when $18.9 million was stolen from the Dunbar Armored facility. The investigation into the Castaic heist, where $100 million worth of jewels were taken from a Brink's semi truck, is still ongoing with no arrests made.

GardaWorld, the targeted facility, is a prominent security partner with branches in 45 countries. An employee at GardaWorld expressed shock at the breach, stating that the facility is typically secure and that the alarm system is always checked. This latest heist comes as a surprise to many, given the facility's reputation for protecting its clients' assets and operations.

The incident has left authorities and the public on edge, with the large sum of money stolen raising concerns about the safety and security of such storage facilities. The LAPD and FBI are urging anyone with information about the heist to come forward as they continue their investigation into this major crime.
