"ChiefsAholic" Fan Ordered to Pay $10.8M to Bank Teller

20:23 09.04.2024

A Kansas City Chiefs superfan, known as "ChiefsAholic," has been ordered by an Oklahoma judge to pay $10.8 million to a former bank teller who was assaulted during a robbery. Xaviar Michael Bubudar, 29, who was famous for attending Chiefs games dressed as a wolf, pleaded guilty to a series of bank robberies in multiple states. The judge ordered Bubudar to pay $3.6 million to the teller, Payton Garcia, for her injuries and loss of income, as well as $7.2 million in punitive damages.

Garcia's attorney, Frank Frasier, acknowledged that it would be challenging to collect the money, but emphasized the importance of the judgment in sending a message that nobody should profit from such crimes. Although it is rare for a teller to sue a bank robber, Frasier argued that if Bubudar ever profited from his story, Garcia would be entitled to some of the judgment.

Bubudar, who is currently in prison awaiting formal sentencing, admitted to the robberies and laundering the stolen money through casinos and online gambling. As part of his plea agreement, he must pay at least $532,675 in restitution and forfeit property, including an autographed painting of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recovered by the FBI. Despite the large judgment against him, legal experts believe it is unlikely that Garcia will collect much from Bubudar, as bank robbers are generally not wealthy individuals.
