Escaped Murder Suspect Sparks Pennsylvania Manhunt

19:45 12.07.2023

Headline: Dangerous Homicide Suspect Escapes Pennsylvania Jail, Sparks Massive Manhunt Subheadline: Michael Charles Burham, accused of murder, arson, and kidnapping, remains at large Warren County, Pennsylvania - In a daring escape, a homicide suspect, Michael Charles Burham, 34, broke free from the Warren County Jail in Pennsylvania, triggering a widespread manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Authorities have warned the public that Burham is "very dangerous" and should not be approached. Burham, who was being held on charges of arson and burglary, is also a suspect in a homicide investigation and the kidnapping of a local couple. According to Cecile Stelter, spokesperson for Warren County, Burham used tied-together bed sheets to scale down from the jail"s roof after "elevating himself" onto a piece of exercise equipment. The escape was discovered early Friday morning when staff noticed Burham"s absence from the recreation area. Stelter mentioned that Burham was under video surveillance while in the yard. "He is considered dangerous by his past actions," she stated. Authorities have urged the public to report any unusual sightings but not to approach him directly. Despite a massive search effort, Warren police have been unable to locate Burham, whose survivalist skills and comfort in wooded areas have made the manhunt more challenging. Residents have been asked to review their security cameras for any possible sightings. Burham was last seen wearing a jail-issued blue denim coat, white and orange pants, and orange shoes. Over ten federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Jamestown Police Department, are assisting in the search. Burham"s criminal history is alarming. He is accused of fatally shooting Kala Hodgkin, a resident of Jamestown, New York, and had an active arrest warrant charging him with raping her at the time of the killing. In a separate incident, Burham allegedly attempted to break into his ex-girlfriend"s home and set her car on fire. During his multi-state crime spree, Burham kidnapped a Pennsylvania couple at gunpoint, leading police on a chase that ended in South Carolina. The kidnapped couple was found alive in a cemetery in North Charleston, and a note allegedly written by Burham was discovered in their vehicle. The note mentioned that he was "safe for now" and apologized for the problems he caused his family. Burham"s capture on May 24 in South Carolina provided temporary relief, but his escape has reignited concerns about public safety. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and immediately report anything suspicious to the authorities. The search for Burham continues, and anyone with information is asked to call the Cattaraugus County Sheriff"s Office at 716-938-2217 or 911.
