18:54 15.07.2023

The incident took place on a busy street in Fargo, North Dakota, leaving one police officer dead and two others critically injured. Details surrounding the shooting remain unknown, as police have not released information on how the incident unfolded or a possible motive. However, many witnesses reported seeing a man open fire on the officers before being shot by other officers.

One witness, Shannon Nichole, was driving at the time of the shooting and saw the officers fall. She described the chaos, saying, "I saw the traffic stop and as soon as I drove, shots were fired and I saw the cops go down. My airbag went off and the bullet went through my driver's door." Another witness, Chenoa Peterson, was driving with her daughter and witnessed the suspect pulling out a gun and firing at the police. She described the terrifying moment, saying, "He proceeds to aim it and you just hear the bullets go off, and I'm like, 'Oh, my God! He's shooting!'"

Following the shooting, officers converged on a residential area about 2 miles away and evacuated residents while gathering evidence related to the incident. The Fargo Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation, and the identities of the officers and the suspect have been withheld until their families are notified.

The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation, along with federal, state, and local law enforcement, is working together to respond to the shooting incident, according to North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley. The Fargo Police Department plans to provide more details during a press conference scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

The community has shown an outpouring of support for the police department, with messages of sympathy and solidarity being posted on social media by police departments and other agencies across the region. "Thinking of our brothers and sisters in Fargo," a post from the South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police said. The Glenwood Fire Department in Minnesota also expressed their support, saying, "Please keep the blue lights shining to show our support of not only our local law enforcement but also those affected by today's events!"

Sanford Medical Center Fargo has confirmed receiving patients from the shooting, but updates on their conditions will be provided by the Fargo police. As the investigation continues, the community is asked to be patient and understanding during this difficult time.
