Police Unverified Carlee Russell's Nude Photo Claims Amid Disappearance

02:26 25.07.2023

Hoover Police investigators in Alabama have been tirelessly piecing together the mysterious events surrounding the disappearance of Carlethia Carlee Nichole Russell, a 25-year-old nursing student, who went missing last week. Police Chief Nicholas C. Derzis addressed the media during a news conference on Wednesday, revealing that there have been significant discrepancies in Russell's initial statements to investigators. However, police have confirmed that Russell made several alarming internet searches before vanishing, raising concerns about her safety.

The internet searches made by Russell included inquiries about paying for Amber Alerts, how to discreetly take money from a cash register, and the movie "Taken," which centers around abduction. These searches have only deepened the mystery surrounding her disappearance.

Russell reportedly disappeared on Thursday evening after making a distressing 911 call, reporting a toddler wandering on Interstate 459 South. Nevertheless, the police have found no evidence of a child on the highway and have not received any additional 911 calls regarding the sighting of a child. Detectives managed to obtain surveillance footage from Russell's neighborhood, capturing her walking alone before returning home. However, when police arrived at the scene of her 911 call, they discovered her car, cellphone, wig, and purse, but the snacks she had purchased at Target prior to her disappearance were missing.

In a surprising turn of events, Russell returned home on foot on Saturday night, approximately 49 hours after she initially went missing. She was promptly taken to a hospital for evaluation and subsequently released after receiving medical treatment. During her brief statement to investigators, Russell recounted a harrowing tale of being forcibly taken into a car by a man who emerged from the woods, claiming to be checking on the child she had reported. She claimed that the next thing she remembered was being inside the trailer of an 18-wheeler truck with the man, who had orange hair, and a woman. Russell mentioned hearing a baby crying, further deepening the mystery.

According to Russell's account, she managed to escape at one point but was recaptured and taken to a house where she was undressed. The following day, the woman allegedly fed her cheese crackers and played with her hair. Eventually, Russell was placed back into a vehicle, seizing the opportunity to escape in the West Hoover area. She navigated through the woods, ultimately finding her way home.

Hoover Police Chief Nicholas C. Derzis stressed that investigators are diligently working on the case and are meticulously evaluating various pieces of evidence to establish a comprehensive timeline of events during the 49 hours Russell was missing. To aid in their investigation, the department has sought the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service to analyze Russell's cell phone records leading up to her disappearance. This multidimensional investigation has involved cooperation from local, state, and federal agencies, along with a large group of volunteers organized by Russell's concerned parents.

Despite the unnerving nature of Russell's disappearance, police do not currently believe there is a threat to public safety related to this case. However, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and subsequent return home remain under intense investigation. Authorities eagerly await a more detailed statement from Russell to help piece together the missing parts of her account. The investigation is ongoing, and the police remain resolute in their determination to uncover every piece of evidence in order to fully understand the events that unfolded during those 49 hours.
