Woman breaks out of accused kidnapper's cinder block cell with her bare hands in Oregon garage

In a shocking and disturbing case, an Oregon man has been arrested for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman who managed to escape from his garage. The suspect, Negasi Zuberi, 29, was captured by the FBI's Portland field office after the victim, a sex worker whom he had allegedly abducted, managed to break open the cell door and flag down a passing motorist for help.

According to authorities, Zuberi traveled to Seattle on July 15 to pick up a prostitute. The victim told investigators that he posed as an undercover police officer, pointing a taser at her before handcuffing her and forcing her into the back of his car. He then drove approximately 450 miles to his home in Klamath Falls, Oregon, repeatedly sexually assaulting her along the way.

Upon arriving at his home, Zuberi locked the victim in a cinderblock cell that he had created in his garage. It was there that she showed incredible strength and resilience, beating down the doors and walls of the cell with her hands until they were bloody. Eventually, she was able to escape and flag down a passing motorist for help.

Zuberi fled the area after the woman's escape, but was tracked down to Reno, Nevada, the following day. He was arrested following a 45-minute standoff with police, during which he attempted to destroy his phone and cut himself, according to the arresting documents.

Authorities are now concerned that there may be more victims, as Zuberi is a suspect in four sexual assault cases in other states. The FBI noted that since 2016, Zuberi has lived in New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Nevada, and Alabama. He is known to have used various aliases, including Sakima, Justin Hyche, and Justin Kouassi, and may have raped victims by posing as a police officer or drugging their drinks.

Zuberi is currently facing charges of interstate kidnapping and could potentially face life in prison if convicted. The FBI is urging anyone with information or who believes they may be a victim to come forward and contact them.

This horrific case serves as a reminder of the dangers that sex workers face and the importance of ongoing efforts to protect and support them. The quick thinking and determination of the victim in this case may have saved other women from experiencing a similar nightmare. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigations in the hopes of identifying any additional victims and bringing them justice.
