Oregon man accused of holding woman captive in makeshift cell appeared on 'Judge Judy' with children's mother

In a shocking turn of events, a man who appeared on an episode of the popular television show Judge Judy in 2018 has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and holding a woman captive. Negasi Zuberi, 29, also known by the aliases "Sakima," "Justin Hyche," and "Justin Kouassi," was apprehended on July 16 after the woman managed to escape and seek help. He now faces charges of interstate kidnapping.

Authorities have revealed that Zuberi has been linked to four violent sexual assaults in multiple states, although specific locations have not been disclosed. This revelation has raised concerns about the safety of potential victims who may have encountered Zuberi. NBC News, however, has chosen not to name the woman or her children, as they may have also suffered abuse.

The Judge Judy episode featuring Zuberi has resurfaced on social media, shedding light on his turbulent relationship with the mother of his two children. In the episode, Zuberi, who went by the name Justin Hyche, accused his ex-fianc?©e of assaulting him with a glass bottle and causing damage to his property. The couple had relocated from California to New York after the birth of their son, but they were no longer living together at the time of the incident. Their son was just 21 months old.

During the episode, Zuberi presented video evidence of the initial altercation, which was viewed by Judge Judy Sheindlin in her courtroom. The footage captured the woman urging Zuberi not to take their child out into the cold. She can be heard asking someone nearby to call the police, alleging that Zuberi was intoxicated. The situation escalated, resulting in a glass bottle shattering on the sidewalk. Zuberi claimed that he had filed a police report against the woman but was instead arrested himself, spending two days in jail.

Despite the woman's claims that she did not throw the glass bottle and that Zuberi had physically assaulted her, Judge Judy Sheindlin sided with Zuberi, questioning the woman's credibility. Sheindlin stated that the woman should have arrived to pick up their child at the agreed-upon time of 6 p.m., rather than 11 p.m., as she had done. The woman, who was pregnant at the time, alleged that Zuberi had laid hands on her and called an ambulance to check her blood pressure after the incident. Sheindlin dismissed her claims and demanded medical evidence to support her injuries.

In an unexpected turn, Sheindlin also questioned Zuberi about the possibility of being the father of the woman's unborn child, to which he responded ambiguously. The woman denied any wrongdoing and counter-sued for her phone, which she claimed Zuberi had broken after being released from jail. Sheindlin dismissed her counterclaim and ruled in favor of Zuberi, ordering the woman to pay him.

The appearance of Negasi Zuberi, now facing charges of interstate kidnapping, on Judge Judy has raised concerns about the legal system's ability to identify potential offenders. It is a stark reminder that appearances on reality television do not always reflect the true nature of individuals. As this case unfolds, authorities will continue to investigate Zuberi's alleged involvement in other violent sexual assaults, hoping to bring justice to any additional victims who may have suffered at his hands.
