Ryan Preece recovers from horrifying crash, leaves hospital

16:51 27.08.2023

NASCAR driver Ryan Preece has been discharged from the hospital after surviving a terrifying crash at Daytona International Speedway. Preece, behind the wheel of the #41 RaceChoice.com Ford, was involved in an on-track incident with fellow driver Chase Briscoe, driver of the #14 Magical Vacation Planner Ford, on Saturday. The collision resulted in Preece's car flipping through the air, rolling more than half a dozen times before finally coming to a stop. Shockingly, the vehicle appeared to be on fire during the ordeal.

Fortunately, Preece was able to extricate himself from the wreckage and was immediately attended to by emergency medical personnel. He was promptly transported to the Halifax Health Medical Center, where he remained overnight. Stewart-Haas Racing, Preece's team, took to social media to update concerned fans on his condition, revealing that he was "awake, alert, mobile," and in communication with loved ones.

On Sunday, Preece was given the green light to return home to North Carolina, marking a remarkable recovery following the harrowing crash. Astonishingly, the incident hasn't deterred Preece's determination to continue racing, as he defiantly proclaimed on social media, "If you want to be a race car driver, you better be tough... I'm coming back."

The crash, which occurred during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 race, saw Preece's car barrel roll a staggering 10 times along the Daytona backstretch. Despite the severity of the accident, Preece was miraculously cleared to leave the hospital the following day, heading back to his home state.

The race itself was marred by multiple accidents, with another collision occurring at the end of the second stage. Christopher Bell gave Ty Gibbs a slight nudge, causing Gibbs to lose control and subsequently collide with Ryan Blaney, triggering a chain reaction that ensnared several other cars. In-car cameras captured the intensity of the impact as Blaney slammed head-on into the wall. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Alex Bowman, and A.J. Allmendinger were among the other drivers caught up in the chaos.

In total, an astonishing 16 cars were involved in the wreckage. The extent of the damage prompted a red flag, halting the race on Lap 96 of 160 as the cleanup crew diligently worked to clear the debris from the track. Eventually, the race resumed, with Chris Buescher emerging as the eventual winner, securing his third victory of the season.

Despite the frightening series of crashes, Preece's resilience and determination to continue competing in NASCAR are a testament to the unwavering spirit of these drivers. As the NASCAR community breathes a collective sigh of relief, fans eagerly await Preece's triumphant return to the track.
