The Volusia County Sheriff's Office in Florida has arrested a man who allegedly flaunted a stolen Mercedes-Benz on social media after using it to carry out a series of break-ins. The suspect, 23-year-old Nicholas Coffey, was apprehended on Sunday morning after being identified as one of two individuals involved in multiple car break-ins in the Deltona area over the weekend. According to the sheriff's office, Coffey and the other suspect, both wearing face coverings and gloves, were caught in the act on residential security cameras.

Authorities were able to further link Coffey to the stolen vehicle through video surveillance footage obtained from a Deltona gas station. The footage allegedly showed Coffey arriving at the establishment at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, driving the stolen Mercedes-Benz that had been reported missing from Ormond Beach. In the video, Coffey can be seen wearing a face covering around his neck and blue latex gloves on his hands as he made a purchase inside the store.

Detectives from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office were able to identify Coffey as the person in question through his "distinct face and neck tattoos." The detective assigned to the case also had a warrant out for Coffey's arrest in connection with a separate investigation. Additionally, Coffey's social media accounts provided further evidence, as they contained photos of him wearing the same clothing seen in the gas station footage and residential security videos. He had also posted about his new Mercedes-Benz.

License plate reader data confirmed that the stolen vehicle had been present on five Deltona streets where the car break-ins occurred between 3 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. After being located in Daytona Beach at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, Coffey was apprehended by deputies and detectives for the outstanding warrant. He was then transported to Deltona for questioning.

During the interview, Coffey did not deny being the person captured in the videos, but he also did not confess to committing any crimes, according to the sheriff's office. Nevertheless, he was booked into jail on several charges, including 11 counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of a conveyance, one count of conspiracy to commit attempted burglary of a conveyance, fraudulent use of a credit card, and probation violation for being a convicted felon with a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities have yet to identify the second suspect involved in the break-ins.
