When is the second Republican candidate debate? Start time and how to watch

08:24 11.09.2023

In a much-anticipated event, Fox News Media's Stuart Varney and Dana Perino, alongside Univision's Ilia Calder??n, will be hosting the second Republican presidential debate in Simi Valley, California. Taking place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute on September 27 at 9pm ET, this debate is expected to be a fierce battle among the Republican hopefuls.

Looking back at the previous debate held in Milwaukee in August, one standout candidate was Vivek Ramaswamy, despite being a political newcomer. His strong performance on stage left a lasting impression on both the audience and fellow candidates. Interestingly, even though Donald Trump did not attend the event, he managed to claim victory by publishing a coinciding interview with Tucker Carlson that garnered more than 100 million views. This time around, it is expected that candidates like Ron DeSantis and others will be eager to reclaim the spotlight.

However, California poses an interesting backdrop for the Republican debate, as it has long been considered a Democratic stronghold. The state has remained a blue state for decades, adding an extra element of challenge for the Republican contenders.

For those eager to watch, the debate will be aired on Fox Business, allowing viewers in the US to tune in. Additionally, the debate will also be livestreamed on Rumble, a video-sharing service popular among conservatives, as well as on Univision.

Seven candidates have met the Republican National Committee's threshold to appear on the debate stage. Notably, despite easily meeting the qualifications, Donald Trump has made it clear that he will not participate in any of the debates. However, other candidates who have qualified include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott, former Vice President Mike Pence, multi-millionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

An important condition for participating in the RNC debates is that each candidate must sign a pledge certifying their support for the eventual Republican nominee. This requirement ensures a united front within the party and emphasizes the significance of party loyalty.

As the date approaches, anticipation grows among supporters and political enthusiasts alike, eager to witness the clash of ideas and strategies that will unfold on the debate stage in Simi Valley, California.
