06:42 23.09.2023

A 2-year-old Michigan girl named Thea Chase recently went on an unexpected adventure when she wandered away from her home in the Faithorn area of Menominee County. The little girl, accompanied by the family's two dogs, embarked on a journey that would leave her family frantically searching for her before contacting the authorities.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting the Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain post to be called to Thea's home. With the help of drones and K-9s, the police launched a search operation as citizens from both Michigan and neighboring Wisconsin joined the effort in the remote wooded area.

The hours passed, and as midnight approached, hope began to wane. However, a person riding an ATV made a miraculous discovery about 3 miles away from Thea's home. To their astonishment, they found the little girl sound asleep in the woods, using one of the family's dogs as a pillow. Lt. Mark Giannunzio of the Michigan State Police described the scene, saying, "She laid down and used one of the dogs as a pillow, and the other dog laid right next to her and kept her safe. It's a really remarkable story."

Thea's mother, Brooke Chase, expressed her fear and shock when she realized her daughter was missing. "I was in such a fog and in such a shock that she was literally gone, in a split second," Chase said. The family and their friends searched desperately for Thea, calling her name and searching the surrounding areas. After approximately 15 minutes, they decided to contact the police for assistance.

Upon being found, Thea was examined by medical staff and thankfully appeared to be in good health. It was a huge relief for her family, who had been through an immense amount of worry and anxiety. The town of Faithorn, where the incident occurred, is an unincorporated village located just east of the Wisconsin state line and approximately 60 miles southwest of Marquette, Michigan.

The incident has attracted attention nationwide due to its extraordinary nature. Michigan State Police Lt. Mark Giannunzio referred to it as a "really remarkable" story. The little girl's ability to find comfort and safety in the presence of her dogs in the unfamiliar woods highlights the bond between humans and animals.

Faithorn, Michigan, is located in the Upper Peninsula, known for its vast forest landscape and its position bordering three of the Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, and Huron. The area is known for its natural beauty and attracts visitors from near and far.

Overall, this heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the love and loyalty that our furry friends can provide, even in the most unexpected situations. Thea's journey, though frightening for her family, ultimately ended in a joyful reunion and serves as a testament to resilience and hope.
