Wisconsin Woman Sentenced to Life for Gruesome Murder and Dismemberment of Ex-Boyfriend

05:14 27.09.2023

In a shocking and gruesome case that has shocked the community, a Wisconsin woman, Taylor Schabusiness, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder, sexual abuse, and dismemberment of her former lover, Shad Thyrion. The 25-year-old woman strangled Thyrion to death during a meth-fueled encounter in the basement of Thyrion's mother's Green Bay home in February 2022. Schabusiness admitted to investigators that she then used kitchen knives to sever his head and penis.

The sentencing took place on Tuesday, and Brown County Circuit Judge Walsh delivered the harsh punishment, stating, "The offense in this case can't be overstated. You seem to run out of superlatives. Where the victim's remains are cut up? These actions are foreign. They shock the community; there aren't really words for it." Schabusiness appeared in court wearing what appeared to be an apparent spit hood over her face. When asked if she had anything to say, she simply replied, "No, there isn't."

The jury found Schabusiness guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, third-degree sexual assault, and mutilating a corpse after just 50 minutes of deliberation on July 26. They rejected her insanity plea deal the next day. In a shocking turn of events, Shad Thyrion's father, Michael Thyrion, shocked the court by expressing forgiveness towards Schabusiness for taking his son's life. He stated, "Taylor, I forgive you for what you did to my son ... you made a bad choice. I'm going to miss Shad. He was a wonderful child, too." He continued, "I believe everybody makes bad choices, maybe not to this scale. It does no good to hate you. I know you've got a heart, got a mind."

During the trial, a disturbing interview with the police was played to the jury where Schabusiness described how she took pleasure in cutting off her lover's head and engaging in sexual acts with his corpse. Green Bay Police Department Detective David Graf testified that Schabusiness admitted to initially choking her boyfriend as foreplay but then "enjoyed it" and wanted to see what would happen if she continued. After decapitating him, she confessed to cuddling his lifeless body and engaging in sexual contact.

The horrifying discovery of Shad Thyrion's remains was made by his mother in the basement of her home. Schabusiness's 2-year-old son is currently in the process of being adopted by her grandmother, who testified on her behalf. Schabusiness's father, Arturo Coronado, who is serving a 12-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting a child, also testified in court while wearing shackles and an orange jumpsuit. In a previous incident, Schabusiness attacked her own attorney during a hearing, which resulted in a deputy having to wrestle her to the courtroom floor.

Schabusiness's defense attorney, Christopher Froelich, argued that she is not a monster and that at 25 years old, there is still potential for her rehabilitation. However, the judge deemed the offense to be so heinous that a life sentence without parole was the only appropriate punishment.

This case has left the community in shock and disbelief, struggling to find words to describe the horrific actions committed by Taylor Schabusiness. As she begins her life sentence, the community hopes to find healing and closure in the aftermath of this gruesome crime.
