Elon Musk and AOC Clash Over Intelligence Amid Migrant Crisis Comparison

23:19 28.09.2023

In a heated exchange on social media, billionaire Elon Musk and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clashed over their differing opinions on New York City's migrant crisis. Ocasio-Cortez had claimed that the current situation paled in comparison to the influx of immigrants who arrived through Ellis Island in the early 20th century. She argued that the daily number of immigrants during that time far exceeded the numbers seen today. However, Musk responded by calling the congresswoman "not that smart," igniting a fierce back-and-forth between the two.

The dispute began when Ocasio-Cortez mocked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, using a social media meme to criticize his leadership. Conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair then shared a clip of Ocasio-Cortez discussing the issue of legal immigrants coming through Ellis Island versus undocumented migrants crossing the border. St. Clair accused Ocasio-Cortez of using faulty logic by equating the two, and Musk joined in by insulting her intelligence.

Ocasio-Cortez quickly fired back, listing her accomplishments and challenging Musk to refute her claims. She highlighted her investigative work on Cohen, her role in creating the largest FEMA funeral assistance program in history, and her leadership in establishing the US Climate Corps. Undeterred, she added a bitter sendoff to the Tesla CEO, telling him to "stay mad."

Conservatives on social media seized the opportunity to mock Ocasio-Cortez further. Actor and conservative Dean Cain questioned whether her response addressed Musk's claim, while St. Clair urged her to drop her persona of growing up in the Bronx. Chris Brunet, a contributing editor for The American Conservative magazine, criticized Ocasio-Cortez for not addressing the issue of illegal immigrants, which he deemed indefensible. Conservative influencer Harrison Krank undermined her accomplishments, quoting Nancy Pelosi's statement that a glass of water with a Democratic label could have won in her district.

The feud between Musk and Ocasio-Cortez is not new, as the Tesla CEO has a history of trolling her on social media. Last year, he playfully responded to her tweet about a billionaire with an ego problem, jokingly stating, "Stop hitting on me, I'm really shy." Ocasio-Cortez quickly corrected him, referring to her tweet being about Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, formerly known as Facebook.

The current migrant crisis in New York City has been a contentious issue, with thousands of undocumented migrants seeking asylum in the US. Mayor Eric Adams has estimated that the city will need to spend $12 billion over the next three years to provide food and shelter for these individuals. Ocasio-Cortez has placed some blame on US sanctions against Venezuela, claiming they have contributed to the surge of migrants at the southern border. She acknowledged that Venezuelan President Nicol??s Maduro is also responsible for the crisis.

As the social media feud between Elon Musk and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continues, their differing views on the migrant crisis and immigration policies remain at the forefront of their disagreements. The clash highlights the ongoing debates surrounding immigration in the United States and the role of high-profile figures in shaping public opinion on the issue.
