Singer-songwriter Grimes, whose legal name is Claire Boucher, has filed a petition against billionaire mogul Elon Musk over parental rights of their three children. The petition was filed in San Francisco Superior Court last week, seeking to establish a parental relationship. While court documents are not available for the case, a notice of alternative dispute resolution methods was also filed on the same day.

Representatives for both Musk and Grimes were not immediately available for comment. The couple first had a son together in 2020, named X ??? A-12, and later welcomed a daughter, named Exa Dark Sider?¦l Musk, via a surrogate in 2021. They commonly refer to their children as “X” and "Y." In September, it was revealed in Walter Isaacson's biography of Musk that the couple had a third child, a boy named Techno Mechanicus, affectionately called Tau.

Recently, it was reported that Grimes pleaded with Musk to allow her to see their son in a reply to a post on X, the social media platform owned by Musk. Grimes expressed her frustration at not being able to see her son and the lack of communication about their children, stating that it had caused turmoil within their family. However, her post has since been deleted.

In a previous post in September, Grimes apologized for her reaction to a post by Isaacson, acknowledging that it was a gut-level response to a difficult situation. She expressed her desire to de-escalate the narrative and prioritize her children's privacy.

Now, Grimes has taken legal action by suing Musk over parental rights. The lawsuit was filed in a California court and seeks to determine the legal parents of a child when they are not married. Musk, who is also a father to 11 children with three different women, including his ex-wife Justine Wilson, has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Musk and Grimes had an on-and-off relationship since 2018 and officially split in September 2021. Their relationship was initially revealed when journalist Walter Isaacson shared details from his biography of Musk, including how Musk wooed Grimes with a high-speed Tesla Autopilot ride and a gift of animal bones. The couple listened to history podcasts and audiobooks before going to bed.

As the legal battle unfolds, the public awaits further details regarding the parental rights dispute between Grimes and Musk.
