Tragic Oregon plane crash kills 2 and injures 1

09:40 04.10.2023

In a tragic turn of events, two individuals lost their lives and one sustained injuries after a small airplane crashed through the roof of a residential home in northwestern Oregon on Tuesday night. The incident unfolded at approximately 7 p.m. local time, prompting multiple witnesses to immediately dial emergency services to report the sight of a small plane "spiraling toward the ground." This distressing sight eventually culminated in the aircraft crashing in Newberg, a city located about 25 miles from Portland.

According to a Facebook post by Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, responders swiftly arrived at the scene and were met with a horrifying sight. The small plane had crashed through the roof of a residential home, resulting in a portion of the aircraft becoming embedded within the house, with the remainder scattered across the backyard. The situation quickly escalated as it became apparent that two passengers onboard the ill-fated plane had tragically lost their lives, while another passenger had sustained injuries.

The injured individual was promptly extricated from the debris and expeditiously airlifted to a trauma hospital in Portland via helicopter for urgent medical treatment, as stated by the fire and rescue service. As the fire crews continued sifting through the wreckage, a harrowing discovery was made. They uncovered the remains of a third occupant, who was also pronounced dead at the scene. Miraculously, no individuals on the ground or in proximity to the Newberg residence suffered any injuries as a result of the plane crash.

Initial assessments by the responding crews initially yielded no indications that anyone had been present inside the home during the crash. However, subsequent interviews with the homeowners shed light on a different narrative, revealing that multiple individuals had indeed been inside the residence when the plane tragically careened through their roof. Thankfully, all occupants successfully evacuated the premises, ensuring their safety. Despite the devastation caused by the crash, the small plane remarkably did not ignite into flames.

"The Red Cross was activated to provide assistance to the family who has been displaced from the residence," announced the fire and rescue service, acknowledging the immediate need for support for those affected by the incident. In an effort to ensure the structural stability of the remaining home, search and rescue teams and a specialized technical rescue unit meticulously combed through the scene.

With the investigation now underway, the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, alongside the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, is diligently working to ascertain the cause of the crash. Furthermore, authorities are determined to establish the causes of death for the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in this devastating incident. As the community grapples with the shock and grief that has befallen them, the full weight of this calamity serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the inherent risks that accompany air travel.
