Duhamel, known for his roles in “Las Vegas” and "Safe Haven," admitted that he never felt comfortable with the fame and attention that came with being in the public eye. He stated, "I don't think I ever really got comfortable with all of it. It was just a lot. I missed the simplicity of who I really am." The 50-year-old actor added that he struggled with the Hollywood lifestyle and felt that it could "suck the soul out of you if you're not careful."

Reflecting on their marriage, Duhamel revealed that he and Fergie simply outgrew each other and had different interests. Since their separation, Duhamel has relocated to his home state of North Dakota and recently married former Miss World America, Audra Mari. The couple is expecting their first child together. Duhamel explained that leaving Los Angeles has allowed him to reconnect with his true self and focus on what truly matters to him. He stated, "Having this place out here almost helps my career because I can get back to being who I really am. If I'm there and I get caught up in that world, you start to lose track of who you are. And I don't think I've ever done that, thankfully, but there's been moments where I could have gone off the grid for sure."

Duhamel and Mari share a love for their home state and family, which has brought them closer together. The actor expressed his happiness with their relationship, stating, "That's why Audra's so great for me. We're both hard-core North Dakotans who love it here, who love the people here, who have family here. We both love lake life, we both love family, we both love kids."

In response to Duhamel's interview, Fergie showed her support for her ex-husband's new chapter in life. She commented on Duhamel and Mari's pregnancy announcement on Instagram, saying, "I am truly happy for you guys. Axl can't wait to be a big brother."
