Grandmother, 53, killed when tire crashes through windshield as she drives to amusement park with family

00:06 07.10.2023

Tragedy struck on Sunday as a loving grandmother from Virginia lost her life in a horrifying accident while en route to a family outing at an amusement park. Tammy Parsons, 53, was traveling in a Ford Explorer on Interstate 64 in York County with her fiance, twin daughters, and two grandchildren when disaster struck. A tire came loose from a Jeep traveling in the opposite direction and crashed through the windshield of the SUV, hitting the driver's side. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Parsons was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joseph Palumbo, Parsons' devastated fiance, spoke out about the loss of his "soulmate." He described Parsons as a dedicated and loving mother who would do anything for her children. Palumbo, who had been with Parsons for over a decade, expressed his profound grief, stating, "She is by far the best woman I've ever met in my life... I lost a soulmate."

Remarkably, no one else in the vehicle was injured in the tragic accident. Palumbo attributed their survival to the heroic actions of Parsons' daughter, Skyler. According to Palumbo, when the tire crashed into the car, Skyler immediately sprang into action, jumping over her mother to help him steer the car into a guardrail, preventing a more catastrophic outcome. Palumbo marveled at his daughter's strength, saying, "That takes pure strength in my eyes. And you know what? That comes from their mom."

The family had been on their way to Busch Gardens' Howl-O-Scream event in Williamsburg when the accident occurred. Palumbo shared a touching anecdote, revealing that he had recently received a Halloween decoration in the mail, which Parsons had ordered before her untimely death. He confessed that the unexpected arrival brought tears to his eyes, saying, "I didn't know it was coming... It brought a little tear."

Palumbo firmly believes that Parsons sacrificed her own life to save her loved ones. He stated, "This is how I'm going to look at it. [She] gave her life to save everybody that was in that car. We all walked away that day because of her."

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, although preliminary findings suggest that neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the accident. Charges may be filed as the investigation continues. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Virginia State Police for further information.

Tammy Parsons' death has left a profound void in the lives of her family members. She leaves behind three daughters, a son, and four grandchildren. Her obituary describes her as the backbone of her family, with her children and grandchildren being her greatest joy in life. Known for her selflessness, kindness, and courage, Parsons was remembered as a woman with a big heart who always prioritized others before herself.

As the investigation into this tragic accident unfolds, the community mourns the loss of Tammy Parsons and offers their support to her grieving family.
