Hamas' 'Day of Rage' prompts global security alert and FBI attention

09:35 13.10.2023

In response to Hamas' call for a "Day of Rage" targeting Israelis and Jews, security measures have been heightened around the world. The FBI has stated that it is aware of the "calls for global action" on Friday, October 13th and is actively working with law enforcement partners to identify and disrupt any potential threats. The U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department have increased their visibility in Washington, D.C., although there are no specific threats to the District of Columbia or Congress. Fencing has been erected around the U.S. Capitol Building, and the Metro Police have stated that they are working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to monitor events worldwide and ensure the safety of the community.

Furthermore, the New York City Police Department has increased uniform deployments at large gatherings and cultural sites, and the Los Angeles Police Department is assessing the situation as well. The Israel National Security Council and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have advised all Israelis abroad to be alert and avoid demonstrations and protests. They have also warned that protest events in various countries may turn violent.

Hamas' call for protests was made by former leader Khaled Meshaal, who urged supporters to take to the streets in support of the Palestinians. He specifically mentioned Jordan, Israel's neighbor, and emphasized the responsibility of the Jordanian people in this "moment of truth." The largest number of Palestinian refugees is said to reside in Jordan and Lebanon.

The Israel-Hamas war, which commenced on Saturday with an attack by the terrorist group in Israel, has resulted in a death toll of at least 2,800 people, including 1,300 Israeli civilians and soldiers, as well as 27 Americans. In response to the escalating tensions, security has been increased in major American cities and countries worldwide to prevent acts of antisemitism and violence against Jewish individuals. The situation remains fluid, and law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring developments to ensure the safety of citizens.
