Elk hunters spot 'Bigfoot' in rural Colorado

23:54 18.10.2023

A couple's train ride through rural Colorado has sparked excitement among Bigfoot enthusiasts after they posted footage online of a mysterious figure walking through the mountains. Shannon Parker and Stetson Tyler were on the Narrow Gauge train ride from Durango to Silverton when they spotted movement on the mountainside. A video captured by a fellow passenger shows a large, bipedal creature moving across the pass before squatting down. Parker explained on Facebook that they were looking for elk when Tyler spotted what he believed to be Bigfoot. Out of the hundreds of people on the train, only three or four witnessed the elusive creature, according to Parker. The creature appeared to be at least six or seven feet tall and was camouflaged among the mountain sage. The train's conductor later informed the couple of a similar sighting he had experienced. He had come across footprints that were larger than snowshoes would have been, suggesting a non-human presence. Mixed responses flooded Parker's Facebook post, with some users expressing belief while others remained skeptical. Some users even jokingly questioned what the couple had been drinking. Since the sighting, skeptics have emerged, suggesting that the creature could have been an individual wearing a suit. Primatologist Mireya Mayor, known for her work on the Travel Channel's docuseries Expedition Bigfoot, criticized the blurry footage and the fact that there were scheduled trains running through the area, implying that it could be a hoax. Mayor believed that the movement of the figure was too human-like to be an animal and suggested it may have been a person wearing an oversized suit. In a tongue-in-cheek response, a Silverton-based RV company named Sasquatch Expedition Campers denied any involvement in the sighting. They posted a picture on Facebook of someone working on an RV dressed in costume Bigfoot feet, with a clump of hair nearby, aiming to mock the allegations. According to the National Guard, legends of Bigfoot date back beyond recorded history and are found all over the world. Sightings of the creature, also known as Sasquatch or Witiko, have been reported by North American settlers during the late 1800s and 1900s. Alleged footprints, encounters, and grainy photographs have fueled the myth, leading to the establishment of organizations dedicated to studying and documenting Bigfoot. These groups regularly venture into the Northwest woods in search of definitive proof.
