Heroic Reporter Saves Slain Friend's Children Amid Chaos After Hamas Attack

14:46 21.10.2023

In a harrowing turn of events, journalist Ilana Curiel became a real-life hero as she answered the call to action and saved two children from the clutches of Hamas terrorists. Curiel, a reporter at the English-language Israeli news outlet Ynet, received a distressing call from her friend Roy Edan's children, 8-year-old Michael and 6-year-old Amalya. The children had been trapped in a closet with their mother's lifeless body for hours, after their parents fell victim to the brutal attack by Hamas terrorists on their home.

As chaos reigned in the aftermath of the attack on October 7th, the resourceful children managed to reach out to their aunt, uncle, and even the police to alert them of their parents' tragic fate. "Luckily the kids were resourceful. They managed to get a call out to Roy's brother who got in touch with a special commando unit," Curiel recounted in an interview with FOX News. Determined to help, Curiel wasted no time and quickly rushed to their aid, braving heavy shelling and navigating treacherous roads that she described as a "pathway to hell."

Curiel's fear for the children's safety had grown when she discovered that Edan had not responded to her messages on the day of the surprise attacks. With news of his wife's probable death and the children's desperate situation, she knew she had to act swiftly. "I wasn't quite sure if the children were alive or dead... I decided to rush over there, hoping that at least two of his kids were alive," Curiel revealed in an interview with The U.S. Sun.

Upon arriving at the scene of devastation, Curiel managed to locate the children and successfully rescue them from their nightmare. She then took them to safety, where they could begin the process of recovering from the trauma they had endured. The fate of the Edan family's third child, three-year-old Abigail, remains unknown. It is speculated that she may have been taken back to the Gaza Strip by the terrorists, along with hundreds of other Israeli civilians.

The attack on Edan's kibbutz in Kfar Aza marked the beginning of a relentless war between Israel and Hamas. Roy Edan, a photojournalist, had captured images of the terrorists infiltrating the kibbutz before he and his wife Smadar tragically lost their lives. As the death toll continues to rise, with over 1,400 Israelis dead and more than 4,200 wounded, the country finds itself in the midst of the worst attack in 50 years.

The timeline leading up to this devastating event sheds light on the complex history between Israel and the Gaza Strip. In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from the territory, which it had won from Egypt in the Six-Day War over three decades prior. However, this move was followed by the rise of Hamas, a terrorist group that won the Palestinian legislative election in 2006 and subsequently seized control of Gaza in a civil war in 2007.

Tensions escalated further in 2008 when Palestinian terrorists fired rockets into the town of Sderot, prompting Israel to launch a military offensive against Gaza. Fast forward to 2023, and Hamas launches its most significant attack on Israel in half a century. The consequences are dire, with a staggering number of casualties, hostages, and devastating visuals of Hamas terrorists parading female hostages through the streets.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the nation is at war, vowing that Hamas would face a price "it has never known." On the Palestinian side, Gaza health officials report a death toll of at least 3,000, with over 12,500 injured.

As the Edan family mourns the loss of Roy and Smadar, their funerals are scheduled to take place on Friday. However, the fate of their youngest child, Abigail, remains uncertain, leaving loved ones and authorities desperate for answers. The situation continues to unfold, and the world watches with bated breath as the conflict between Israel and Hamas shows no signs of abating.
