Robert De Niro's Courtroom Outburst: 'Shame on You!' to Former Assistant

03:53 01.11.2023

In a New York courtroom, Hollywood actor Robert De Niro erupted in anger as he faced accusations of abusive behavior from his former executive assistant and vice president, Graham Chase Robinson. Robinson is seeking $12 million in damages, claiming that De Niro's actions caused her severe emotional distress and reputational harm. She alleges that De Niro would use the toilet while speaking to her on the phone, called her abusive names to her face, and even asked her to scratch his back instead of using a back scratching device.

As De Niro testified in court, his frustration grew, particularly when attorney Andrew Macurdy presented tabloid-style accusations against the actor. Robinson sat alongside her lawyers, watching as De Niro vehemently denied the allegations. The tension in the courtroom escalated when De Niro shouted "Shame on you, Chase Robinson!" towards his former employee. After catching the judge's glance, De Niro apologized in a quieter voice.

The trial also involves a countersuit filed by De Niro against Robinson, in which he claims that she stole valuable items, including five million airline points. He is seeking the return of three years' worth of salary. However, the jury is still deliberating on this matter.

During cross-examination, De Niro was questioned about certain behaviors he allegedly exhibited towards Robinson. He vehemently denied urinating while speaking to her on the phone, dismissing the claim as nonsense. While he admitted that he may have used abusive language during conversations, he insisted that he was never physically abusive towards Robinson. When confronted with the allegation that he preferred she scratch his back instead of using a device, De Niro angrily rebuked the claim, stating that it might have occurred occasionally, but never with disrespect or lewdness.

De Niro's career spans over six decades, and he has won two Oscars for his remarkable performances. Currently starring in Martin Scorsese's latest film, "Killers of the Flower Moon," the actor finds himself embroiled in this legal battle. The trial continues, with both sides presenting their arguments and evidence before the jury. De Niro's reputation and Robinson's emotional well-being hang in the balance as the courtroom drama unfolds.

During his testimony, De Niro admitted that he did not have any written rules for his employees, relying instead on what he called the "rules of common sense." He acknowledged promoting Robinson to the role of vice president at her request but emphasized that her duties did not change. At times, De Niro would initially deny an accusation, only to later admit that there may be some truth to it, albeit in a different context. For example, when asked if he yelled at Robinson when she failed to remind him of an important meeting, De Niro first denied it but then admitted that he had raised his voice and berated her.

De Niro also acknowledged that he may have referred to Robinson as a brat, but he was quick to reiterate that he was not abusive towards her. Throughout his testimony, De Niro displayed impatience, stating at one point, "I don't have time for this." He vehemently denied Macurdy's suggestion that he sued Robinson first to gain publicity, stating that drawing attention to himself was the last thing he wanted.

As the trial continues, the courtroom remains captivated by the clash between De Niro and Robinson. With De Niro's iconic status in the film industry, the outcome of this legal battle will undoubtedly have a significant impact on both his reputation and Robinson's future.
