AEW Full Gear: MJF's Risky Bet and A Show-Stopping, Violent Match

09:49 19.11.2023

AEW pay-per-views are known for their high-quality matches and intense storylines, and Full Gear was no exception. However, there were a few elements that prevented it from being a truly great event. The main event of the night was a Texas Deathmatch between Hangman Adam Page and Swerve Stickland. The match was brutal and unique, featuring excessive violence that pushed the boundaries of what is typically seen in professional wrestling. The two competitors went to extreme lengths to defeat each other, with Stickland even stapling himself and feeling no pain. Despite the intense action, the finish of the match left something to be desired, as Stickland needed outside interference from Prince Nana and Brian Cage to secure the victory.

In the world championship match, MJF successfully defended his title against Jay White. Although MJF showcased his skills as a babyface, there were concerns about his reliance on heel tactics to win matches. The match itself was filled with dramatic moments and cliche babyface spots. MJF endured significant pain and delivered impressive moves, such as an elbow drop onto White from a broken announce table. The match lacked a post-match angle, which left some fans feeling disappointed.

The tag team match between Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne against Darby Allin, Sting, and Adam Copeland was centered around Cage's avoidance of Copeland. Cage continuously ran away from Copeland, ultimately costing his team the victory. The match was filled with exciting tandem moves and showcased the talents of all the competitors involved. The story between Cage and Copeland is likely to continue, as they are destined for bigger and better things together.

The women's division received a much-needed reset at Full Gear, with Julia Hart defeating Kris Statlander to become the new TBS champion. The match was highly competitive and featured aggressive performances from both Hart and Statlander. The victory solidified Hart's rise in the division and set the stage for future rivalries.

In other matches, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho defeated The Young Bucks, Orange Cassidy retained the AEW International championship against Jon Moxley, and Ricky Starks and Big Bill retained the AEW World Tag Team championships in a ladder match.

Despite the overall success of Full Gear, there were some shortcomings. The AEW tag team division seemed to suffer, with little drama surrounding the ladder match and a lack of compelling storylines. Additionally, the referee's performance in the women's championship match was questionable, and something felt missing from the match overall.

Looking ahead, AEW has the opportunity to build on the events of Full Gear and take their storylines to the next level. Questions remain about the identity of the person behind the Devil mask haunting MJF and his friends, the direction of the women's division with Toni Storm and Julia Hart at the helm, and the potential implosion of The Elite. With new beginnings and fresh opportunities, AEW has the chance to continue delivering compelling and exciting content to its fans.
