Hikers miraculously reunite with missing dog after two months

In a heartwarming tale of survival and resilience, a Bernese mountain dog named Nova has been found after being missing for two long months in the treacherous Colorado wilderness. The 14-month-old pup, who was also a service dog in training, had slipped out of her harness and bolted away from her owner, Robynne Simons-Sealy, in a supermarket car park back in September.

Robynne Simons-Sealy, visibly emotional, recounted the anguish she experienced during Nova's absence. "I was in tears every time it snowed," she confessed to The Greeley Tribune. Despite enduring two snowstorms and harsh low temperatures, Nova managed to persevere and survive against all odds.

The extraordinary discovery came to light when two compassionate hikers stumbled upon the injured and frightened dog while trekking along a trail in Meyers Ranch Park. These Good Samaritans promptly attempted to befriend Nova and offer her assistance, but the dog's fear and injury proved to be a hindrance. In a tragic turn of events, one of the hikers sustained a bite while trying to carry the wounded animal down the treacherous mountain terrain.

Undeterred by the setback, the compassionate hikers realized that the injured pup required immediate medical attention. They swiftly contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, who responded promptly to their distress call. Animal Control was dispatched to the scene, where they encountered one hiker who stayed behind to comfort Nova while the other sought medical assistance and guided the rescuers to the exact location.

In a stroke of serendipity, one of the attending rangers recognized Nova from a missing dog poster that had been displayed within the park a month prior. This crucial piece of information confirmed the dog's identity and brought a glimmer of hope to Nova's devastated owner, Robynne Simons-Sealy. With renewed determination, the sheriff's department and Ms. Simons-Sealy were reunited with Nova at the trailhead.

Although the reunion was undoubtedly a joyous occasion, it was apparent that Nova had suffered injuries during her arduous journey. Nova exhibited a broken leg, but she was now safely in the care of her owner, resting at home. The dedicated team at the sheriff's department also mentioned the possibility of Nova requiring surgery as part of her recovery process.

News of Nova's incredible survival and reunion with her grateful owner quickly spread like wildfire across social media, with netizens expressing their admiration for the hikers' bravery and the unwavering dedication displayed by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. This story serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of animals and the power of community support in times of adversity. As Nova continues her recovery, she will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to all those who encounter her story, reminding us all of the unwavering bond between humans and their beloved furry companions.
