Former South Florida chemistry student deported to China after alleged poisoning attempt

In a shocking turn of events, Xuming Li, a former chemistry student from Florida, has been deported to China and is unlikely to face charges in the United States. Li gained international attention earlier this year when he was caught on camera injecting poisonous toxins underneath his neighbor's front door amidst a noise dispute. Sources have revealed that American immigration officials deported Li back to China, rendering the criminal case against him largely defunct. Li's attorney, Adam Bantner, has confirmed his client's departure.

Li, who was expelled from the University of South Florida after the incident went viral, had pleaded not guilty to charges including battery and possession of a controlled substance. However, he failed to appear at a scheduled hearing due to his deportation, leading a judge to issue a warrant for his arrest that would only activate if he were to return to the US. Li had been in the country on a student visa, pursuing his doctorate in chemistry and conducting his experiments in his university's lab.

The dispute between Li and his neighbor, Umar Abdullah, initially seemed cordial when Li first moved into an apartment directly above Abdullah's in June of 2022. Li even gifted the Abdullahs a dress to celebrate the birth of their daughter. However, tensions escalated when Li started sending Abdullah text messages complaining about noise coming from their apartment. Abdullah was surprised by the note but did not anticipate the situation would worsen.

As Li's complaints became increasingly caustic, Abdullah decided to organize a simulation to test the alleged disturbances caused by his family's movements. Abdullah and a building staffer met with Li in his residence while his wife and child remained upstairs. They made various movements, including walking, rearranging furniture, and jumping, but Abdullah claimed there were few noticeable sounds, leading him to believe the feud would soon fade away. However, Li persisted, even purchasing a decibel-reading device in an attempt to quantify the alleged noise.

Months later, Abdullah and his family began experiencing sudden bouts of nausea and dizziness. During one of these episodes, Li reached out again to complain about noise. Abdullah responded by informing him about the sicknesses they were experiencing. Li replied callously, stating that the gas from his water heater was causing panic and the noise was probably due to their footsteps. Abdullah suspected Li's involvement in their mysterious illnesses and decided to set up a hidden camera.

The hidden camera caught Li crouching down and injecting a syringe filled with chemicals underneath Abdullah's front door. This evidence led to Li's arrest. Abdullah, who has since moved out of the apartment and expressed fears of retaliation from Li, has not yet commented on the deportation.

Xuming Li, a former University of South Florida chemistry student, was pursuing his doctorate on a student visa in the US. Li pleaded not guilty to several felony charges, including battery and possession of a controlled substance. However, he was caught on surveillance video attempting to poison his neighbor, Umar Abdullah. Using a syringe, Li pumped a mixture of deadly toxins into Abdullah's apartment, leading to his arrest on June 27.

Li's attorney, Adam Bantner, has confirmed that his client has been deported to China and is unlikely to face charges in the US. Bantner explained that Li's student visa was canceled after he was expelled from school, resulting in his deportation. Bantner added that there is a warrant for Li's arrest, which would only be activated if he were to return to the US.

During Li's initial arrest, a hazardous materials team determined that the substances he injected into Abdullah's home were a combination of the opioids methadone and hydrocodone. This shocking revelation further solidified the severity of Li's actions. The entire incident stemmed from an ongoing noise dispute between the two neighbors, with Abdullah's apartment located directly above Li's.

This case has been widely discussed due to its alarming nature and the potential harm it posed to Abdullah and his family. Li's deportation has surprised many, leaving unanswered questions about the potential consequences he may face in China. The story serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining peaceful and respectful relationships within communities to avoid such dangerous conflicts.
