Draymond Green's Wild Punch Prompts Ejection, Suns' Nurkic Calls for Help

11:05 13.12.2023

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green may be facing another suspension after being ejected for the third time this season. During Tuesday night's game against the Phoenix Suns, Green struck Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face while the two players battled for position in the third quarter. The incident resulted in a flagrant foul 2 call, leading to Green's ejection. This marks the 18th career ejection for Green, the most among active NBA players.

After the game, Green apologized to Nurkic, explaining that he was trying to sell the call by swinging away. "He was pulling my hip and I made contact with him. As you know, I'm not one to apologize for things I meant to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf, because I didn't intend to hit him," Green stated. However, Nurkic had a different perspective, expressing concern for Green and suggesting that he needs help. "What's going on with him, I don't know. Personally, I feel like that brother needs help. I'm glad he didn't try to choke me... That had nothing to do with basketball. I'm just out there trying to play basketball," Nurkic commented, possibly referring to Green's previous suspension for putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold.

Suns coach Frank Vogel criticized Green's actions, calling it a reckless and dangerous play. "I'm sensitive to our guys getting hit on plays like that. I didn't like it. The refs did what they had to do. The league will do what they have to do," Vogel stated. The incident occurred during a game in which the Suns were missing Kevin Durant, but they still managed to defeat the Warriors, improving their record to 13-10. Meanwhile, the Warriors continue to struggle, losing 11 of their last 15 games and dropping to a record of 10-13.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr expressed the importance of Green's presence on the team and the need for him to maintain his composure. "We need him, we need Draymond. He knows that, we've talked to him. He's got to find a way to keep his poise and be out there for his teammates," Kerr emphasized. Green's repeated ejections and possible suspension could pose challenges for the Warriors as they strive to improve their performance.
