US comedian and activist abducted, killed after trying to meet woman he found on social media in Colombia: reports

03:55 15.12.2023

In a shocking turn of events, American comedian and activist Tou Ger Xiong has been found dead in what appears to be a kidnapping-turned-murder case in Colombia. Xiong, who was 50 years old and an Asian-American residing in Minnesota, was known to frequently visit Colombia. It has now been revealed that he was lured into a trap by a woman whom he had previously been in contact with. Xiong's brother, Eh Xiong, disclosed to The Post that the suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified, was part of the "new friends" that Xiong had made during his trips to Colombia.

According to Eh Xiong, his brother possessed multiple photos of the woman and her friends on his phone. These photos, combined with the testimony of Xiong's roommate, who had seen the suspect before, aided the police in locating and apprehending the woman. Eh Xiong expressed his concern that the suspect had likely been attempting to gain his brother's trust during his visits to Colombia. He speculates that Xiong may have let his guard down because he believed he knew her.

The harrowing ordeal took a distressing turn when Xiong's brother and a friend received calls from both Xiong and the kidnappers demanding a ransom of $2,000 for his safe release. Xiong's friend, who ultimately filed the police report, revealed that Xiong had informed him that he was being held at gunpoint. Tragically, the exchange for the ransom never took place. Xiong's lifeless body was eventually discovered in the La Corcovado ravine, showing signs of more than a dozen stab wounds and multiple bruises, likely caused by a fall over 60 feet.

Eh Xiong shared that the police were able to locate his brother's body following the arrest of the woman. He remains hopeful that investigators will be able to bring all those involved in this heinous crime to justice. The family is currently awaiting the results of a toxicology report.

This devastating incident also serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by U.S. tourists in Colombia. Earlier this year, travelers were warned about schemes in major Colombian cities where visitors were drugged with scopolamine, a substance that induces a trance-like state. It is unclear at this time if scopolamine played a role in Xiong's abduction and subsequent murder.

Tou Ger Xiong, born in Laos in 1973, came from a large family with seven brothers and four sisters. He grew up with a strong sense of compassion and dedicated his life to helping fellow immigrants assimilate and find opportunities in Minnesota. Described as a champion for equality, Xiong was a political science major who used his wit and humor to defuse tense situations. He became a comedian because he believed in bringing joy and laughter to others. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community in Woodbury, MN, mourning the loss of a beloved advocate.

Eh Xiong revealed that the Xiong family is working on establishing a foundation in Tou Ger's name to continue his impactful work and assist others in need. The legacy of this remarkable individual, who inspired and touched the lives of countless people, will live on through the efforts of the foundation.
