Train derails in Texas after smashing through semitruck trailer, video shows

06:15 20.12.2023

In a terrifying incident captured on video, a Union Pacific train in Texas derailed after colliding with a large semi-truck that had become stranded on the tracks. The incident took place near Aledo, about 20 miles west of Fort Worth, and resulted in two train engines and 17 train cars derailing. The dramatic footage filmed by a witness shows the train sounding its whistle as it crashed into the truck at full speed. The impact caused the oversized load on the truck to be lifted into the air and pushed to the side of the tracks, creating a cloud of dust.

"The whole train is going off the rail. Oh my gosh... Look at the train! It's flipping upside down," exclaimed Samuel Ingram, the man behind the camera, in the video. Each train car can be seen flipping onto its side off the rails one after the other. Fortunately, the train conductor suffered only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to Fox4.

Following the collision, there was a spill of diesel fuel and oil, but it was determined that it did not pose a threat to the public, as confirmed by the Parker County Sheriff's Office. Firefighters, hazmat crews, and emergency responders immediately sprung into action to control the fuel spill. However, no other chemicals were released, and no hazardous materials threat was reported.

The crash occurred at a crossing along FM 5 at Annetta Centerpoint Road, prompting the closure of the section of FM5 near the incident for the majority of the day as crews worked to clear the tracks and the road. The Parker County Sheriff's Office stated that the Texas Department of Public Safety reported two train engines and 17 train cars being derailed during the incident.

This shocking collision serves as a reminder of the potential dangers when vehicles become trapped on train tracks. It highlights the need for enhanced safety measures at crossings to prevent such accidents in the future. As investigations into the incident continue, authorities will work to ensure the area is safe for reopening and that any necessary improvements are made to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
