Tragic Loss: Fox News Anchor Matt Napolitano Dies at 33

21:18 27.12.2023

Fox News Radio anchor and reporter, Matt Napolitano, sadly passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. The devastating news was announced by Napolitano's husband, Ricky Whitcomb, who took to social media to share the heartbreaking update. In a post on X, Whitcomb wrote, "With a heavy heart I have to share that my husband @MattNapolitano passed away yesterday morning."

Whitcomb also expressed his admiration for Napolitano's dedication to his work, stating, "He loved his job and he loved bringing the news to your radios and televisions." He added that Napolitano was an honest journalist who genuinely cared about facts, even jokingly attributing the New York Jets' last-minute win to him. It was clear that Napolitano's passion for journalism shone through in his work.

Napolitano began his career with Fox News in 2015, initially as a writer for the SiriusXM channel, "Fox News Headlines 24/7." He quickly made a name for himself and expanded his role within the network. In addition to his work as a sports reporter, Napolitano became a contributor for Fox Business shows such as Neil Cavuto's "Cavuto Coast to Coast." His versatility and talent were highly regarded by his colleagues and superiors.

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott paid tribute to Napolitano in a heartfelt memo to staff, highlighting his dedication and versatility. "Matt did everything from anchoring to writing and producing for our audio platforms and loved being able to work in the journalism field that he trained for his entire life," Scott wrote.

Beyond his career achievements, Napolitano had a lifelong dream of appearing on game shows. He fulfilled this dream in 2020 when he became a contestant on "Jeopardy!," a show he had been a fan of for years. According to Variety, Napolitano also appeared on "Wheel of Fortune" in 2016 and even made it to the bonus round. These experiences showcased his intelligence and love for trivia.

Tragically, Fox News also mourned the loss of another valued member of their team, Adam Petlin. Petlin, the director of operations at Fox News' Chicago bureau, passed away on the same day as Napolitano after battling a long illness. Petlin was a respected figure within the network and played a pivotal role in reporting on significant news events, including the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

In her memo, Scott described Petlin as a "natural leader" who was highly regarded by his colleagues. He had been involved in reporting on major news stories for the past 27 years and was known for his professionalism and expertise.

The loss of both Napolitano and Petlin has undoubtedly left a void within the Fox News community. Their contributions to journalism and dedication to their respective roles will be remembered and celebrated. Napolitano's passion for his work and his love for game shows will also be cherished by those who knew him. He leaves behind his loving husband, Ricky Whitcomb, whom he married earlier this year.
