Colorado mother on the run after allegedly murdering her two children

11:29 30.12.2023

Authorities in Colorado are currently searching for a 35-year-old mother, Kimberlee Singler, who is suspected of killing two of her children and attempting to kill a third. The tragic incident unfolded after police initially responded to a reported burglary at Singler's home. An arrest warrant has been issued for Singler on charges of murder and attempted murder.

According to a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department, Singler's 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter were found dead in the home, while her 11-year-old daughter was sent to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The department's Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, along with the assistance of the FBI, has been searching for Singler since the warrant was issued on Tuesday.

"We have a few ideas where she might be but recognize she could be anywhere," said Ira Cronin, a public information officer with the FBI's Denver office. Singler was last seen on December 23, and authorities are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to come forward.

The initial response by police came after receiving a 911 call about a burglary at Singler's home shortly after midnight on December 19. It is unclear who made the call, but officers arrived to find an adult female, later identified as Singler, and her 11-year-old daughter with injuries. Tragically, the bodies of the two younger children were discovered inside the residence.

Initially, Singler was considered a victim based on the reported burglary, but as the investigation progressed, she became a suspect. The burglary was later determined to be unfounded, and Singler was initially cooperative with police after being released from the hospital. However, she later became uncooperative, and authorities were unable to get in contact with her.

Singler's surviving daughter, who was also injured in the incident, has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries. She is currently not with her mother, according to Cronin.

Singler now faces four counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The charges for each alleged crime were doubled due to the victims' ages, as all of the children were under 12 years old. Singler's bond has been set at $10 million.

Details of the arrest warrant are currently sealed under a court order but are expected to be unsealed at a later time, according to the police release.

The case surrounding Singler and her estranged husband has been ongoing for several years, with accusations of knife brandishing and court deliberations over polygraph testing and visiting exchanges, according to court records. Solicitors for both Singler and her husband could not be reached for comment.

Authorities are continuing their search for Singler, with the FBI assisting in the investigation. While police do not believe Singler is in or near Colorado Springs, they recognize that she could be anywhere. The focus remains on locating her and bringing her to justice for the alleged crimes she has committed.
