Swatting incident targets Hunter Biden laptop repairman's home

23:08 31.12.2023

Delaware computer repairman, John Paul Mac Isaac, who gained attention for his involvement in the Hunter Biden laptop controversy, reported that his home was targeted in a swatting incident on Friday night. Mac Isaac took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on December 29 to share the incident, expressing gratitude towards the Wilmington Police Department for their prompt and professional response. Swatting is a dangerous act where false reports are made to emergency services in order to provoke a response, typically involving a SWAT team, at a specific address.

Mac Isaac's home being swatted resulted in wasted time for the Wilmington PD, but he remains undeterred, vowing to continue his fight. The Wilmington Police Department has not yet provided any information regarding the swatting call made to Mac Isaac's residence. Swatting incidents occur frequently, with some perpetrators using caller ID spoofing to conceal their identity. Numerous public figures, including Senator Rick Scott, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, have also fallen victim to swatting, according to the Associated Press.

In response to the escalating number of swatting cases, the FBI announced the creation of a national database in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to track such incidents across the country. The police have observed a significant surge in false claims about active shooters at educational institutions, as well as bomb threats targeting synagogues and other Jewish establishments since the Israel-Hamas conflict began. Authorities are actively arresting and charging suspects involved in swatting cases, while states are considering imposing stricter penalties for such offenses.

It is worth noting that Mac Isaac has been involved in a legal battle with Hunter Biden, having filed a defamation lawsuit against him in October 2022. In March, Biden responded with a counterclaim, accusing Mac Isaac of illicitly distributing his personal data and alleging six counts of invasion of privacy. Mac Isaac's claims are based on his belief that Biden, whom he identified as the customer, dropped off three laptops at his store in 2019 but never returned to collect them within the stipulated 90-day period, thereby rendering the laptops abandoned under store policy. Mac Isaac asserts that he searched the emails on the laptops using specific keywords in June or July 2019.

It is important to note that John Paul Mac Isaac was not present at his home during the swatting incident. The information provided in this report includes contributions from Fox News' Yael Halon, Anders Hagstrom, and the Associated Press.
