Biden's New Year's resolution: To come back next year

00:34 01.01.2024

President Biden Reveals New Year's Resolution as Vacation in the Virgin Islands Continues

President Biden, currently vacationing in St. Croix, revealed his New Year's resolution for 2024 during a dinner with his family. As he departed the Too Chez Restaurant and Bar, a reporter asked him about his resolution, to which he replied, "To come back next year, that's the biggest one right now." Biden, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden and their granddaughter Natalie, has been enjoying a secluded stay at the beachfront home of wealthy backers Bill and Connie Neville.

The president's vacation comes at a crucial time as he gears up for a competitive reelection battle in 2024. Polling has shown Biden trailing former President Donald Trump, who is considered the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Despite the challenging numbers, Biden remains determined and focused on defeating Trump. At a recent fundraising event near Boston, he stated, "If Trump wasn't running, I'm not sure I'd be running. We cannot let him win."

Biden's allies have expressed confidence in his ability to surpass expectations, citing his track record of exceeding predictions. Communications director Michael Tyler emphasized the president's historic victories in the off-year elections, where Democrats achieved success in several states. Tyler stated, "You see days, weeks, months of breathless predictions about how terrible things are gonna be for Joe Biden, followed by an election day with historic victories."

The upcoming election holds significant implications, as both Biden and Trump have the chance to become the oldest-serving president in US history if they win and serve a full term. Currently, Biden holds this title at 81 years old.

While on vacation, the Bidens have been enjoying various activities, including attending mass and taping an interview with Ryan Seacrest for ABC's broadcast of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest." The president's New Year's resolution to "come back next year" was met with positive responses from his team. Former Biden communications director Kate Bedingfield stated, "We love a New Year's resolution we can keep," acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead in the campaign. CNN political analyst Scott Jennings expressed skepticism, remarking, "I don't know if I would bet on it or not," in response to Biden's comments.

Recent polls have shown Trump leading Biden in key swing states and hypothetical general election match-ups. A Wall Street Journal poll conducted in November and December found Trump ahead of Biden in both scenarios. Republicans have criticized Biden for vacationing while the southern border crisis continues to escalate. Rep. Gary Palmer, chairman of the House GOP Policy Committee, stated, "President Biden's entire presidency has been a vacation from reality."

As President Biden's vacation continues, the nation eagerly awaits the unfolding of the 2024 election and the fierce battle between Biden and Trump for the presidency.
