Queens bar brawl stabbing leaves man dead, friend clinging to life in NYC's first murder of 2024

19:52 02.01.2024

In a tragic start to the new year, two separate incidents of violence have left one man dead and another clinging to life in New York City. The first incident occurred on New Year's Day in the Bronx, where a 29-year-old man was stabbed in the neck on a subway platform. The attack took place at the southbound B and D train platform at Grand Concourse and East 182nd Street in Fordham Heights. Authorities reported that the victim was critically injured and was attacked with an unknown cutting instrument around 8:50 p.m. Multiple individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence, and charges are pending. The motive for the stabbing is currently under investigation.

Unfortunately, the violence continued into the early hours of New Year's Day in Queens, resulting in the city's first murder of 2024. Tsering Wangdu, a 29-year-old man, lost his life in a knife fight outside a bar in Jackson Heights. The brawl erupted on the corner of 76th Street and Roosevelt Avenue after Wangdu and his 30-year-old friend were kicked out of a nearby bar following an argument with another reveler. According to law enforcement sources, Wangdu, who lived in the neighborhood, was stabbed in the thigh, while his friend suffered slashes to the chest and face. Both victims were rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where Wangdu was pronounced dead later that evening. His friend remains in critical condition.

As of now, the unknown assailant responsible for Wangdu's death is still on the run, and no arrests have been made. The police are actively investigating the incident and seeking any leads that may help identify and apprehend the suspect. The community is in shock and mourning the loss of a young life, as the motive behind the fatal attack remains unclear.

These two incidents serve as a stark reminder of the violence that can mar the celebrations of a new year. The authorities are urging anyone with information about either case to come forward and assist in the investigations. The city is determined to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of its residents as they strive for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.
