Casey Anthony's parents face lie detector test in granddaughter's death investigation

23:01 03.01.2024

In a shocking turn of events, George Anthony, the father of Casey Anthony, made a rare appearance in front of his Florida home this week. This comes ahead of the highly anticipated premiere of a TV special titled "Casey Anthony's Parents: The Lie Detector Test" on A&E. The special, set to air on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET, features George and his wife, Cindy Anthony, agreeing to take a polygraph test in an effort to prove their innocence in the murder of their granddaughter, Caylee.

Casey Anthony, often referred to as "America's most hated mom," was accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, in 2008. However, she has consistently maintained that her father is the real perpetrator. These allegations were further amplified in a Peacock TV docuseries released in 2022, where Casey doubled down on her claims that George had molested her and may have been responsible for Caylee's death. George has vehemently denied these allegations on multiple occasions.

As George appeared in front of his house on Tuesday, he seemed to display a relatively calm demeanor while engaged in a phone conversation. Observers also noted that he appeared to have lost weight over the past year, perhaps a reflection of the stress and turmoil surrounding the ongoing controversy.

The upcoming TV special, "Casey Anthony's Parents: The Lie Detector Test," promises to shed new light on the case. In a clip from the show, George is seen struggling to answer a question posed by retired FBI Special Agent George Olivo, who administered the polygraph test. The results of the test, as well as the parents' reactions to them, will be revealed during the broadcast.

George and Cindy Anthony's decision to take the polygraph test stems from their desire to clear their names and prove their innocence in the tragic death of their granddaughter. George Olivo, the retired FBI agent who conducted the test, has previously stated that polygraph tests are "85 to 90% accurate" when administered correctly. He also mentioned that nothing particularly stood out to him during George's test.

The disappearance of Caylee Anthony in 2008 sent shockwaves across the nation. Cindy initially reported her missing on July 15, 2008, approximately a month after the toddler was last seen on June 15, 2008. During the investigation, Cindy informed the police that Casey's impounded vehicle emitted a foul odor resembling that of a decomposing body. Forensic experts later testified during Casey's trial that the vehicle did contain evidence of human remains in the trunk.

Casey was subsequently arrested in connection with her daughter's disappearance and death later that same year. Initially, she told the police that Caylee had vanished while she was with a babysitter. However, it was later revealed that Casey had left home and spent the following month with her boyfriend, failing to report any crime involving her daughter.

The release of this TV special and the Anthony family's decision to undergo a polygraph test have sparked renewed public interest in the case. Viewers eagerly await the broadcast, hoping for answers and closure in the tragic saga that has gripped the nation for over a decade.
