US Rep. Lauren Boebert secures restraining order against ex-husband in Colorado

02:35 06.02.2024

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, a Republican representing Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, has been granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert. The order comes after Lauren alleged that Jayson had threatened to harm her and himself. According to court documents, Lauren claimed that Jayson had made multiple suicidal threats and threats to harm her over the past 14 months.

In addition to the threats, Lauren also accused Jayson of entering her home in Stilt, Colo., without permission to remove her personal belongings and destroy them. Jayson, however, told the Associated Press that he had entered the home to clean it up in preparation for the arrival of "her Granny."

The temporary restraining order, which was granted on Friday, includes protections for the couple's three minor children. They also have a fourth adult son together and one grandchild. A hearing is scheduled for later this week to determine if the order will be made permanent.

This recent development adds to a series of flare-ups between Lauren and Jayson. Earlier this month, Jayson was arrested following an incident at a restaurant in Silt where he claimed that Lauren had punched him in the face. However, he later recanted his statement, and police determined that the claim was unfounded. Jayson was charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal trespass, and obstructing a peace officer.

Lauren's request for the restraining order also referenced a physical fight between Jayson and their 18-year-old son on January 9. According to court documents, Jayson allegedly dug his thumb into the teen's mouth in a drunken rage before grabbing a rifle and leaving the residence. He was charged with harassment, prohibited use of a weapon, and third-degree assault for that incident.

Jayson, upon learning of the restraining order, stated that he would never harm Lauren and just wants to move on and be in peace. He also accused Lauren of using the restraining order to justify her move to a new congressional district. In December, Lauren announced that she would no longer run for her current congressional seat and instead run for office in the more Republican-friendly 4th District.

The couple's divorce was finalized in October of last year. The recent incidents have added to the already busy few weeks for Lauren, who also announced her decision to switch districts and not seek reelection in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District. She will now be running in Colorado's 4th Congressional District, which covers the Eastern Plains.

The temporary restraining order granted to Lauren Boebert highlights the ongoing turmoil between her and Jayson Boebert. As the court hearing approaches, the future of their relationship and the well-being of their children remain uncertain.
