Tragic Shooting at Chiefs' Super Bowl Celebration: Popular Radio DJ Among Victims

19:20 15.02.2024

Beloved Kansas City DJ and radio show host, Elizabeth Lisa Lopez-Galvan, tragically lost her life during the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration rally. Known for her infectious laughter and vibrant personality, Lopez-Galvan was a natural at bringing joy to those around her. She was a dedicated music lover who shared her passion for Tejano songs, bringing a burst of culture to the city of Kansas City.

Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two, was celebrating her team's historic repeat championship win alongside nearly 1 million people, including her husband, son, and daughter. However, the festivities took a dark turn when gunshots rang out in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Amidst the chaos, Lopez-Galvan was fatally shot, leaving her family and the community devastated.

In a statement released by the Lopez-Galvan family, they expressed their heartbreak and described her as an amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. They also revealed that three other family members, including Lopez-Galvan's son, were injured during the shooting. The family requested prayers for their loved ones and asked for support as they navigate through this senseless act of violence.

The police have not provided specific details surrounding Lopez-Galvan's death, but they confirmed that a 43-year-old woman lost her life in the shooting. Additionally, at least 22 people, half of whom were children, sustained injuries during the parade celebrating the Chiefs' 25-22 overtime victory in Sunday's Super Bowl.

Lopez-Galvan's impact extended beyond her role as a DJ. Every Tuesday night, she co-hosted the "A Taste of Tejano" show on KKFI radio 90.1 FM, a noncommercial, community radio station. This platform allowed her to share the best Tejano music north of Texas, a tradition that has been ongoing for 28 years in Kansas City. Tejano music, with its roots in South and Central Texas, combines various musical styles from Northern Mexico, German, and Czech polka and waltzes, incorporating instruments like the accordion.

The loss of Elizabeth Lisa Lopez-Galvan has left a void in the Kansas City community. Her infectious laughter, love for music, and dedication to sharing her culture will be greatly missed. As the investigation into the shooting continues, the community mourns the loss of a beloved individual and rallies together to support the injured and affected families.
