Two juveniles have been charged in connection with the deadly shooting at the end of the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory. According to a statement released by the Jackson County family court on Friday, the unidentified suspects are being detained on gun-related and resisting arrest charges. The statement also mentioned that additional charges are expected as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department continues.

The suspects were charged on Thursday by the Office of the Juvenile Officer and are currently being held at a juvenile detention center. Although the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office does not oversee or supervise juvenile officers, officials from the office expect to be present at the suspects' future hearings. Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated that they will continue to work closely with all authorities as the investigation progresses.

Police Chief Stacey Graves informed reporters on Thursday that investigators believe the shooting was the result of a dispute between several individuals. She emphasized that there is no connection to terrorism or homegrown violent extremism. Graves expressed gratitude towards the members of the public who intervened and stopped a person believed to be involved in the shooting immediately after the incident. A video from the scene shows people tackling an individual with a gun, shouting warnings about the weapon.

Several guns were recovered from the scene, and police are working to determine if anyone else was involved in the shooting. Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The shooting resulted in the tragic death of 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio DJ and mother of two. In addition to Lopez-Galvan, 22 others were wounded in the incident, with victims ranging in age from 8 to 47 years old. Lopez-Galvan's adult son was among the injured and is expected to survive. Her sister, Carmen Lopez-Murguia, expressed the devastating impact of the loss, stating that they took away her brother's mother and best friend.

At least half of the victims are under the age of 16, according to police. However, Children's Mercy Hospital confirmed on Thursday that the nine wounded children who were treated at the hospital are expected to make a full recovery. Dr. Stephanie Burrus, a representative from the hospital, acknowledged the emotional toll of witnessing multiple gunshot wounds but assured the public that the staff was prepared to provide care for the injured children.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday afternoon as thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans gathered to celebrate the team's Super Bowl victory. The incident took place near Union Station, where the parade had ended and a rally was being held. The sudden eruption of gunfire sent panic through the crowd as people scrambled for safety.

Elizabeth Galvan, also known as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was one of the unfortunate victims caught in the crossfire. Described as a beloved individual by Chief Stacey Graves, Galvan was a well-known figure in the Kansas City area. She hosted a radio show called "Taste of Tejano" and was a passionate fan of the Chiefs. Her son, Marc, was also present at the rally and was shot in the leg but has since been released from the hospital.

Galvan had been a DJ for over 15 years and was known for her performances in both English and Spanish. She joined the program "Taste of Tejano" in 2022 and was remembered for her superstitions when it came to watching Chiefs games. She would only allow the same group of people to join her, believing it brought good luck to the team. Galvan was described as the life of the party and was actively involved in organizing the annual Fiesta Hispana festival in downtown Kansas City.

The shooting has deeply affected the Hispanic community, with many mourning the loss of such a vibrant and caring individual. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
