Angela Chao Found Intoxicated in Fatal Car Wreck, Police Report Reveals

23:06 20.03.2024

Angela Chao, the CEO of a shipping company and sister-in-law to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, tragically died last month in Texas after driving her Tesla into a pond while intoxicated, according to a law enforcement report released Wednesday. The report, conducted by the Blanco County Sheriff's Office, revealed that Chao's blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit in Texas. The incident occurred after Chao had dinner with friends at a ranch near Johnson City, west of Austin. A friend recounted the frantic moments as Chao called her, saying she was trapped in the sinking car and expressing her love before the vehicle submerged. Friends and deputies attempted to rescue Chao, with one friend paddling out in a kayak and another swimming to the car. Emergency responders arrived and managed to pull Chao out of the vehicle, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Chao, who was the chair and CEO of her family's shipping business, the Foremost Group, and president of her father's philanthropic organization, the Foremost Foundation, was described as a beloved member of the Asian-American community. Her family expressed profound grief over her passing, with her father taking over as chairman of Foremost Group following her death. Chao is survived by her husband, father, and four sisters.
